Job Description
An established and expanding property development company, specialising in residential, commercial, and mixed-use projects, is seeking a dedicated Accountant to support the Financial Manager in overseeing and managing the financial operations of multiple entities. This is a full-time, permanent position offering micro-flexibility, based in Cape Town, with consideration given to candidates from Gauteng who are open to relocating. The ideal candidate will bring robust experience with Sage Accounting Software, strong attention to detail, and a proactive approach to work. Exceptional communication skills and a positive, solution-focused attitude are essential.
Responsibilities:
- Support the Financial Manager with day-to-day accounting functions for up to 10 entities.
- Oversee monthly financial reporting, including preparing financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Conduct account reconciliation, including bank reconciliation, and manage creditor and debtor accounts.
- Process journals, VAT returns, and manage other tax-related activities.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring accuracy and timely transactions.
- Assist in budgeting and forecasting activities for multiple entities.
- Collaborate with the Financial Manager to analyse financial data and provide insights into business performance.
- Ensure adherence to financial regulations and company policies.
- Support audit preparation, providing necessary documentation and explanations as required.
- Enhance accounting processes and systems for improved efficiency.
- Handle ad-hoc accounting tasks.
Requirements Essential:
- Degree in BCom Accounting and SAIPA qualification (or in progress) is advantageous.
- 3 years+ accounting experience.
- Proficiency in Sage Accounting Software and SARS e-filing.
- Strong understanding of financial management, tax regulations (VAT returns), and reporting standards.
- Excellent numeracy skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
Desirable:
- Experience managing finances across multiple entities or subsidiaries.
- Knowledge of South African property development accounting practices would be beneficial.
- Proficiency in English and Afrikaans.
- Ability to present complex financial data clearly and effectively.
