Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Maintenance Manager, the electrician participates in the construction, installation, modification, maintenance, and repairs of electrical appliances, systems, facilities, and related electronic controls of varying design or complexity. The position requires application of knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles in determining equipment malfunctions and applies skills in restoring equipment and facilities to operation. The Electrician provides skilled mechanical and electrical/electronic support to all areas of mining.
Essential Functions:
- Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical equipment, including programmable controls, numeral controls, power supplies, drives, gauges, and test equipment.
- Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical and mechanical theories and principles, writing specifications, local and national electrical codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of electronic equipment.
- Installs, starts up, and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with MSHA requirements.
- Advises operators and line mechanics of operation procedures and requirements for working safely with electrical and mechanical equipment and components.
- Informs appropriate management and line mechanics of potential electrical/mechanical problems and inherent dangers involved.
- Maintains company-required performance and maintenance records for identified equipment.
- Performs preventive maintenance for electrical systems and facilities.
- Assists maintenance personnel with technical troubleshooting.
- Assists in training Electrical Apprentices.
- Plans and schedules work to minimize equipment downtime.
Minimum Requirements:
Successful candidate must possess an Electrical Surface Card through MSHA. 3-5 years of related industry experience is preferred.
Knowledge Requirements:
- A thorough knowledge of electrical components and equipment, including the use of special instruments for diagnostic purposes.
- Ability to troubleshoot and recognize routine electrical malfunctions.
- Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures.
Additional Requirements:
Excellent time management skills are required. Employee must have strong evaluative problem-solving skills along with the ability to understand oral and written procedures and instructions. Employee must maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with MSHA procedures, rules, and regulations. High school diploma or GED and a valid driver's license required.
