Dis-Chem Pharmacies’ in Longmeadow has an opportunity available for a Plumber to join the team. The main purpose of this role will be to assemble, install or repair pipes, fittings, fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems in line with the set specifications of plumbing codes.
Minimum Requirements…
Essential:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- 2 – 5 years’ previous experience in plumbing
- Plumbing Trade Certificate from an accredited institution
- Relevant experience in a Warehouse environment
Advantageous:
- Qualified Artisan

Job Specification…
- Interpret blueprints and building specifications to layout for pipes, drainage systems, and other plumbing materials.
- Test plumbing systems for leaks and troubleshoot other problems using appropriate tools and materials for repair.
- Choose materials based on budget, location, and intended uses of building.
- Repair or replace broken drainage lines, clogged drains, faucets, etc.
- Test pipe systems, repair leaks and observe pressure gauges to fix leaks.
- Perform scheduled maintenance.
- Coordinate, troubleshoot, repair, inspect and maintain plumbing equipment.
- Ensure all defects are repaired timeously and are left in a safe condition.
- Perform routine inspections of plumbing systems to identify and replace worn parts.
- Interpret building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations.
- Install pipes and fixtures, such as sinks and toilets for water.
- Install supports for pipes, equipment, and fixtures prior to installation.
- Assemble fittings and valves for installation.
- Install and maintain water supply systems.
- Install other plumbing equipment, such as sinks, tubs, toilets, and water heaters.
- Ensure health and safety standards are adhered to and comply with plumbing codes.
- Compile reports relating to plumbing incidents that may have occurred and summary of actions taken.
- Provide labour and material estimates related to plumbing for small remodel projects.
- Recommend repair needs to potentially eliminate ongoing and future repairs.
- Maintain daily logs of maintenance and installation.
- Participate in the company’s on-call arrangements for plumbers.
- Assist with office administration including the preparation of quotations, work assessments, and advice to departments.
- Liaise with external contractors when necessary.
- Keep accurate records of time spent working, description of work performed, and materials used.
- Adhere to Dis-Chem Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Adhere to Health and Safety rules and regulations.
