Job Description
A company in the renewable energy industry seeks to employ an Accountant / Bookkeeper to join their dynamic team. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and experienced in managing complex financial operations. You will report directly to the Finance Manager and play a key role in supporting the company's financial integrity. Suitable candidates need to have a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of accounting experience.
Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and analyse monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure accurate and timely closing of monthly accounts across all entities.
- Support audits by preparing necessary documentation and responding to auditor inquiries; ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
General Ledger Management:
- Maintain the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately.
- Oversee and reconcile accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank accounts.
- Maintain the fixed asset register, conduct asset counts, post depreciation journals, and review for additions and disposals.
- Conduct month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of journals (accrual, prepayments, and depreciation).
Management Accounts, Budgeting, and Forecasting:
- Assist in preparing budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor budget variances and provide detailed analysis to management.
- Collaborate with department heads to ensure adherence to budgetary guidelines.
- Assist in the monthly preparation of management accounts as delegated by the reporting manager.
Taxation and Compliance:
- Prepare and submit tax filings (VAT, payroll taxes, corporate tax) and liaise with tax advisors.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax legislation to ensure compliance with changing regulations.
Cash Flow Management:
- Manage cash flow, ensuring timely payments to suppliers and accurate reporting of cash positions.
- Maintain weekly cash forecasting schedules to ensure visibility on future working capital requirements.
Inventory Management:
- Conduct regular inventory reconciliations between physical counts and recorded stock, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
- Monitor and report on stock levels, ensuring correct valuation and provisions for obsolete or slow-moving items.
Other Duties:
- Assist in the procurement process by overseeing supplier quotes, purchase order creation, and delivery to relevant locations.
- Support the logistics process by managing documentation required for international shipments and coordinating with freight forwarders and suppliers.
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Strong communication skills in English and Afrikaans
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience
- Experience in managing multiple entities and handling complex inter-company transactions
- Familiarity with Xero accounting software
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial regulations
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently, show initiative, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Background in the telecommunications sector
- Positive attitude with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset
- Strong time management skills
