Your opportunity:
In the Faculty of Arts & Science, the Centre for Entrepreneurship is the hub for innovation and entrepreneurship-related academic courses, co-curricular programs, and venture incubation and acceleration. Located in its new dedicated space in the Schwarz Reisman Innovation Campus West Building, the Centre works collaboratively with academic departments, college programs, centres, institutes and schools to serve undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty and alumni.
In October 2024, the Centre officially opened its four new dry prototyping labs and makerspaces to the Faculty of Arts & Science community. The labs are home to a variety of equipment and resources suitable for both digital and physical project development. Our labs are available to Arts & Science teams, faculty and alumni with a product idea and offer temporary storage solutions. Full details can be found on our website: Prototyping Makerspace .
Our new Space & Labs Coordinator will join us at an exciting stage of growth for the Centre, providing daily support to the administrative and operation functions of our lab and co-working space facilities. Reporting to the Executive Director and under the day-to-day supervision of the Prototyping Labs Lead, the Space & Labs Coordinator will provide excellent customer service, technical knowledge, and training to our prototyping lab users. The incumbent will bring a customer-centric and detailed approach to our services to ensure that our prototyping lab services, operations, and procedures are up-to-date, informative, and compliant with health and safety guidelines. Our ideal candidate is a team player, who is passionate about supporting current and aspiring entrepreneurs, including students, faculty, alumni and external partners.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing, assembling and setting-up material, equipment and supplies according to the needs of the facility.
- Providing detailed explanations and demonstrating procedures to students and/or employees on experiment set ups and lab techniques.
- Analyzing and recommending suitable materials and methods of approaching fabrication and/or lab work.
- Disseminating information regarding policies and guidelines to facility users.
- Determining technical requirements for fabrication projects.
- Creating and reviewing technical drawing sets for manufacturing.
- Providing safety training and ensuring adherence to safety procedures and standards.
Essential Qualifications:
- Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum four years experience in delivering excellent customer service and managing a variety of operations of a function, unit, or operationally driven work environment required.
- Recent and relevant experience in coordinating operations and space management, logistics management and prototyping lab services is required.
- Experience in providing front line support to students, faculty, and staff is required.
- Experience creating operational documentation and user support guides.
- Ability to decipher mechanical and electrical schematic drawings and use electrical and mechanical diagnostic tools required.
- Demonstrated ability to operate and familiarity with safety practices for equipment such as, but not limited to, 3D printers, laser cutters, soldering, sewing machines, AV equipment, kitchen lab equipment required.
- Analytical ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, area, percentages, volume and apply concepts to algebra and geometry required.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act, related Regulations, EHS, and WHMIS required.
- Strong client service orientation with an awareness of and sensitivity to diversity is essential.
- Demonstrated experience with 3D Design applications or programs such as: Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or equivalent is required.
- Demonstrated experience with stocktaking, minor purchases, invoicing, and deliveries.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and executing performance improvement strategies, implementing solutions, and documenting processes required.
- Proven ability to work independently as well as part of a larger team in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
- Proven ability to coordinate a variety of projects, deadlines and schedules simultaneously.
- Excellent computer skills as applied to databases, spreadsheets, word processing and demonstrable experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and 365 applications including MS Forms and SharePoint are essential.
- Demonstrated experience with Circuit Design software such as: Circuit Maker, EagleCAD, or similar and Image Editing applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InkScape, GIMP, or equivalent, and room booking software is required.
- Highly developed analytical skills with a good eye for detail and accuracy.
Assets (Nonessential):
- Bachelor’s Degree in a science or engineering subject area preferred.

- This role is a full-time term position ending May 2026.
- This position necessitates the presence of the incumbent on-site, full-time. This role is not currently eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, pursuant to University policies and guidelines, including but not limited to the University of Toronto’s Alternative Work Arrangements Guideline.
