Our client is seeking to recruit an experienced Marine Technical Underwriter to assist in the running of its technical back office function. The candidate must be experienced in the processing and production of all insurance documentation and well adversed in all Marine classes including Cargo, Goods In Transit, Stock Throughput, Hull & Machinery, Leisure craft, Marine Liabilities and Facultative Placements.
The role includes underwriting risks and performing tasks with limited supervision on moderate to complex technical placements in a fast paced environment. Ability to follow through with underwriting policies and procedures, rating rules and adherence to insurance laws and regulations.
Requirements:
- At least 3-5 years Marine Experience
- Ability to work independently
- Time Management
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills, takes initiative and pays attention to detail
- Ability to exercise independent judgement and make sound underwriting decisions
- Strong knowledge of MS Office as well as ability to be quick paced in learning other business related software
- Existing Market Relationships and a great communicator who can work with people at all levels
- Sales experience, following up on leads and well adversed in the New Business process
Duties and Responsibilities:
Risk Assessment and Underwriting:
- Evaluate and assess marine insurance risks.
- Utilise sound underwriting practices to make informed decisions on moderate to complex technical placements with limited supervision.
- Follow established underwriting policies, rating rules, and procedures to ensure compliance with insurance laws and regulations.
- Analyse risk factors and determine appropriate coverage limits, terms, and pricing for various marine insurance products.
Documentation and Processing:
- Produce and process all necessary insurance documentation, including policies, endorsements, and renewals, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain up-to-date records of all underwriting activities and decisions.
- Ensure that all documentation complies with company standards and regulatory requirements.
Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing market contacts, including brokers, clients, and other stakeholders.
- Serve as a key point of contact for client inquiries, providing prompt and accurate responses to underwriting questions and concerns.
- Collaborate with internal teams to support client needs and business development initiatives.
New Business Development:
- Actively participate in the new business process by following up on leads, identifying potential clients, and promoting marine insurance products.
- Develop and implement sales strategies to achieve business growth targets.
- Prepare and present underwriting proposals to clients and brokers.
Analytical and Problem-Solving:
- Utilise strong analytical skills to identify and resolve underwriting issues, taking initiative to address challenges proactively.
- Conduct thorough analysis of claims data, market trends, and competitive intelligence to inform underwriting decisions and strategy.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure all underwriting activities adhere to local and international insurance regulations and compliance standards.
- Stay updated on changes in insurance laws, industry trends, and best practices to ensure compliance and maintain competitive advantage.
Time Management and Efficiency:
- Prioritise and manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Meet deadlines for processing applications, renewals, and policy changes without compromising accuracy or attention to detail.
Technology and Software Proficiency:
- Utilise Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software efficiently to perform underwriting tasks.
- Quickly adapt to new software systems and technology enhancements to improve underwriting processes and productivity.
Training and Development:
- Participate in training programs to stay updated on industry knowledge, underwriting techniques, and product offerings.
- Share expertise and mentor junior underwriters or team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
