Position Description
Overall Purpose of the Job
The Lead Credit Management is responsible for managing the credit function of the business and ensuring adherence to the credit management governance framework. This role is also responsible for vetting new customers, granting of credit limits, and managing of risks related to the granting of credit.
Qualifications (Formal Qualification Required)
Minimum
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or Commerce (NQF Level 7)
Ideal
- Postgraduate in Business Administration is advantageous
- MDP is advantageous
- Certificate in Credit Management is advantageous
Legal (e.g., Driver's License, etc.)
Minimum
Experience (Minimum Experience Required and number of years)
Minimum
- Customer-facing experience within manufacturing, heavy industry or FMCG
Ideal
- Experience in SAP ERP is advantageous
KPA / Main Outputs and Responsibilities for this Position
Credit Management
- Assess new customers and determine appropriate level of credit to offer
- Assess credit risks and review credit increases for existing customers
- Assess the current debtor's book and ensure that the outstanding balances are kept to a minimum and that collections are maintained
- Manage customers who are trading close to their existing credit limits
- Alert customers when their credit limit has been breached
- Reduce bad debt by developing and implementing a credit payment plan for defaulting customers
- Implement and maintain relevant credit management policies
- Identify payments made but not yet allocated to release orders to customers
- Review reconciliations carried out by credit controllers to understand payment issues
- Investigate price queries from customers related to short payments against orders and ensure price alignment with sales team
- Create and enforce a governance framework to determine what orders can be authorised for release
- Track overtrading customers and hand over customer accounts for repeated non-payment
- Responsible for monthly credit management reports for RSA and Botswana and International entities
- Identify, draft, develop and implement operational processes, policies, and guidelines.
Stakeholder Management and Business Partnerships
- Engage with sales on blocking of orders for customers over credit limits or in default
- Provide reports to stakeholders relating to credit collections and defaulting customers
People Management
- Manage the performance of direct reports and monitor adherence to expected standards.
- Offer guidance and support and if required take appropriate disciplinary action
- Coach and train team members to perform optimally in their roles
- Provide direct reports with opportunities for growth and development through on-the-job training and feedback
- Participate in the selection and appointment of new team members
- Support the onboarding of new team members
- Conduct regular meetings and promote open and ongoing communication with the team
- Approve the leave of direct reports and manage overtime where applicable
