-We have an exciting position for a Rock Engineering Technician. The role is responsible for assisting the Section Rock Mechanics, Strata Control Officer and other staff with strata control issues on his respective Operational Area.

Job Description
-Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- To undertake regular underground visits to monitor compliance to the Codes of Practice and Support Standards and Procedures and to identify areas with possible strata control problems.
- Carry out appropriate Rock Engineering measurements.
- Liaise with the Shift Supervisors and Miners.
- Input relevant data into plans and layouts.
- Monitor underground conditions and report to the Strata Control Officer.
- Guideline supervision in standards for section safety and performance.
- Audit mining standards for support and pillars to ensure conformance.
- Participation in the investigation of relevant Rock Engineering related incidents and accidents.
- Support the Strata Control Officer with rock engineering information to compile reports.
- Do regular RMRs during underground visits to build up a database.
- Give training to the operations personnel in basic Hazard Identification.
- Monitor and report stability of underground workings.
- Assist with testing of new support products.
- Attend training courses as prescribed by the responsible Rock Engineer.
- Be receptive to on-the-job training.
This role is at a band 8 level reporting to the Section Rock Mechanic.
Qualifications
- Matric with Maths and Physical Science 60% and above.
- Diploma/Degree in Mining or Geology will be advantageous.
Experience
- 1-year experience in Mining or Technical environment.
