What you'll be doing
The ideal candidate will create, implement and measure publicity campaigns for allocated titles in order to maximise sales and raise the profile of our authors, brands and titles. You will maintain high quality relationships with authors, agents and partners. Our publishing is broad and dynamic, including commercial fiction, lifestyle, memoir, history, literary and serious non-fiction.
- Create innovative publicity campaigns for allocated titles to grow sales, raise author/book profile and brand awareness across all editions including physical, digital and audio.
- Analyse the impact of publicity on sales.
- Develop and maintain relationships with all areas of the media to secure positive coverage for new titles.
- Plan, schedule, write and place press releases to publicise activities associated with titles and promotional events.
- Pitch books/products and authors to media contacts and event organisers.
- Organise and accompany authors to publicity events within the UK.
- Work in conjunction with other team members and support colleagues across major campaigns.
- Liaise closely with editorial, sales and marketing to ensure comprehensive campaigns across all platforms.
- Understand and manage own budgets, campaign categories and prioritisation.
- Manage freelance resources where needed.
- Collate media coverage, keeping authors, agents and editors informed.
- Understanding of social media and influencer outreach.
- Keep up-to-date with developments in the industry, share experiences and ideas for improvements.
- Attend events in the evenings and at weekends as reasonably required for the role.
Who we are looking for
Working on a range of commercial and literary fiction and non-fiction, you will have good media contacts and demonstrable knowledge in planning and executing campaigns using a variety of media outlets, coordinating events in bookshops, festivals, libraries and beyond, and a strong knowledge of social media and online media.
The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic and proactive team player with good communication, organisation and time management skills. You will have a track record in identifying opportunities to reach new and diverse audiences through your campaigns and demonstrate a strong understanding of the importance of the elements needed to make a title commercially successful. You will be used to liaising between internal departments, from marketing and sales to rights and editorial, and communicating effectively with authors, agents and press, as well as successfully developing and maintaining contacts across the industry.

The role will be based at our London office, Carmelite House, with a blend of in-office (3 days) and homeworking (2 days) per week.
