Highly specialist Speech and language therapist

Band 7, Part-time - 22.5 hours per week

There is an opportunity to join the Croydon Community Neuro Rehabilitation Team, as part of the Integrated neuro therapy team.

The team provide multidisciplinary rehabilitation for people who have a neurological diagnosis. In addition to Speech and Language therapists, the team consists of Occupational Therapists, Neuropsychologists, Rehabilitation support workers and Physiotherapists.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate significant experience and knowledge in assessment, treatment and management of people who have acquired communication and swallowing problems following neurological events.

As part of the wider speech and language therapy staffing, you would be involved with VF clinics and we also provide a FEES service.

Main duties of the job

At a Highly Specialist level assess, develop and implement Speech and Language therapy for adult clients with communication and swallowing difficulties.

To employ highly specialist interventions for patients /clients and carers who have severe disability and /or terminal illness on a daily basis, and evaluate outcomes.

To write reports reflecting specialist knowledge according to the standards of the Department and distribute these accordingly.

To provide advice and training to the others regarding the management and care of patients /clients with communication and or feeding and swallowing difficulties.

To demonstrate good negotiation skills across a range of issues, including case management in complex cases.

To demonstrate clinical effectiveness by use of evidence based practice and outcome measures, care plans and review with clients

Person Specification QUALIFICATIONS/ EDUCATION/ TRAINING Essential

Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification HCPC registered as a SLT Evidence of specialist neuro SLT short courses

EXPERIENCE Essential

Significant experience working as a band 6 SLT with adults who have a variety of neurological conditions including stroke Experience working in the NHS as an SLT with adults who have a variety of neurological conditions including stroke Experience working as an SLT with adults with neurological conditions in a Community setting Significant experience working as part of an MDT

Desirable

Previous Band 7 SALT experience with adults who have a variety of neurological conditions including stroke

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING Essential

In depth knowledge of a range of appropriate assessment tools and therapeutic interventions relevant to clients with Stroke and other Neurological problems In-depth knowledge of national guidance and policies relevant to clients with Stroke and other Neurological problems

SKILLS, ABILITIES Essential

Able to identify what attracts them to this specific post in Croydon health services trust Demonstrates a passion and commitment for working with people who have neurological problems Adaptable and flexible to changing priorities and needs of the patients/clients and the service
