Position: Mechanical Design Engineer
Contract Outside IR35 Hourly rate £30 - £50 dependent on experience 6-12 months
Location: Bolton, Lancashire
Contract Type: Full-time. Hours to be worked across 4 days Monday to Thursday 7am-5pm. No hybrid / remote working is available.
Are you an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer looking to take on new challenges in a dynamic and fast-paced environment? We have an exciting opportunity to join our innovative team, where you'll play a crucial role in driving forward the design and manufacturing process.
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for producing 3D models, General Arrangement drawings, and design outputs for manufacture, including assembly drawings, fabrication drawings, Bills of Materials, and as-built drawings. Your work will ensure that all designs meet customer specifications, comply with safety regulations, and maintain the highest standards of accuracy and efficiency.
This is a UK based contract for which neither we nor our client can apply for a work permit / VISA. Applicants must be currently eligible to work in the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop designs that comply with product assurance limitations and fully consider all stages of the product lifecycle, including manufacturability, install ability, and operability.
- Eliminate health and safety risks in designs, adhering to CDM regulations.
- Create Designer s Risk Assessments, identifying mitigation measures.
- Prepare 3D models using Autodesk Inventor and produce 2D drawings for customer review and manufacturing, following company procedures and BS 8888 standards.
- Ensure accuracy and clarity in self-prepared drawings, models, and documents before releasing them to SQEP Design Checkers.
- Collaborate with analysis engineers to ensure designs align with theoretical analysis, addressing any design issues and logging changes as necessary.
- Understand build sequences in design outputs before releasing to production.
- Attend design and manufacturability reviews, driving the 3D model and communicating design intent to the wider team.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance departmental capabilities and efficiency.
- Contribute to R&D activities and provide innovative design solutions for bespoke projects.
- Maximise change capture on projects, ensuring all changes are logged and communicated.
- Liaise with customers and provide support to the wider project team as needed.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Proficient in Autodesk Inventor for creating 3D models and 2D drawings.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, manufacturing processes, and engineering standards (BS 8888).
- Experience in risk assessment and understanding of CDM regulations.
- Ability to work collaboratively with analysis engineers and cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly.
