Duties and responsibilities: Manage and implement processes to ensure compliance by the UFS with all statutory requirements by developing policies and standards for compliance. Review, update and maintain the list of Acts of Parliament and their related regulations that govern University activities by identifying the Institutional Compliance Universe and compiling the Compliance Risk Profile of the University. Communicate all statutory requirements (as well as all amendments thereto) to affected Heads of Departments and other structures in the University, ensure and monitor compliance therewith. Evaluate, monitor and report on the compliance risks across the business through annual compliance reviews and reporting to Management and relevant committees. Mitigate identified risks, ensure full compliance with all applicable legislation, University policies and best practices by following up on non-compliance instances and ensuring issues are mitigated and cleared from the non-compliance register. Drive awareness and encouraging a compliance culture across the business by conducting roadshows and workshops. Design and conduct periodic training in compliance and ethics for all employees and executives. Collaborate with other areas such as Risk Management, Legal, Internal Audit, ICT, HR including business operations in advancing compliance program and culture. Escalate material/significant compliance/ non-compliance issues, i.e. irregular activities and/or potential issues in policies or systems to the Deputy Registrar: Legal Services and Regulatory Compliance and the affected stakeholders within the business through the reporting process. Work effectively to ensure that all company activities are compliant with regulations, current laws and policies through continuous identification, evaluation, management, monitoring, and reporting efforts. Be a guide and advisor for executives regarding compliance matters. Support management in the development of a suitable Tone at the Top and Cooperate with the leadership in the formulation of compliance organizational objectives and programs. Co-organize with the corresponding area the compliance risk mapping and its periodic update. Report, inform and, where appropriate, independently investigate incidents involving compliance. Inherent requirements: A relevant bachelors degree or an advanced diploma/ postgraduate certificate on NQF Level 7 in Compliance and/or Law. A minimum of three (3) years relevant working experience in Compliance Management and in Managing Legal Risks. Recommendations: Legal experience in Higher Education. Stakeholder management. Audit and Risk management experience recommended. Registered with the Compliance Institute.
