This role will report into the: General Manager
Main Purpose of the Role:
You will be responsible for the design and implementation of food safety and quality management systems, site specific as well as ensure periodic review of an appropriate product quality and food safety program at the facility.
Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
- Food Science / Microbiology or related Degree or Diploma
- Supplementary advanced training in Food Safety Systems
- 6-8 Years' relevant technical leadership experience gained in the food manufacturing industry
- 5 Years quality assurance management experience gained within the food manufacturing working industry is highly advantageous
- Proven financial acumen and budgetary management expertise
- Solid report writing and presentation skills
- Proficiency in MS Office, with strong MS Excel capabilities
- Experience with PowerBI would be advantageous
- Valid driver's license and own reliable transport preferred
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Stakeholder/Customer Relations:
- Understand customer requirements and design and implement an appropriate system to meet the requirements
- Manage customer complaints within targets
- Seek to continuously improve customer relationships through closely working with the internal and external customer
- Liaise with NPD department during product development to approve developmental technical processes.
- Update and approve product specifications for customers including on the Clients portal
External audits:
- Lead all third party/ customer audits for the site and facilitate closing of corrective actions
Supplier Quality Assurance:
- Conduct and participate in supplier audits
- Sign off all new raw materials and packaging for new product development purposes
- Ensure all raw material approved is within specification, including approval of raw materials from alternate suppliers
- Liaise and provide service rating for all external service providers at site level
Financial Management:
- Manage the technical budget
- Assist in compiling the necessary information for budget reviews
Documentation and Administration :
- Monthly technical reports
- Conduct and document food safety team meetings
- Trend monitoring and verification reports to identify areas of improvements
- Release at site level all documentation as distributed by the Group Document Controller
Quality & Food Safety:
- Understand the business food safety and quality management system and ensure proper implementation and maintenance thereof at site level
- Continuously improve the food safety documented traceability system for the site to ensure proper due diligence.
- Adhere to all relevant legislation and ensure all final product label information meet legislative requirements
- Ensure all site certifications are maintained at the appropriate standards
- Set up and adherence to training plan that aligns to requirements of quality / food safety management system
- Continuously review and update site allergen management programs as part of risk management
- Ensure timeous close off of NCR's relevant to the Technical Department, including identification of repeating total NCR trends to drive continuous improvement.
- Promote a culture of quality and food safety management within the site
- Implement and monitor performance of GMP and PRP programs in the facility
- Identify quality control points within processes and ensure suitable controls are implemented
- Continuously review quality and food safety risk assessments in line with emerging risks and regulatory requirements.
- Conducting all relevant compliance testing and ensuring all corrective actions are closed off
- Ensuring internal audits are conducted as per internal audit schedule and appropriate action is taken to address deviations
- Participate in cross site audits
Process Improvement:
- Actively seek continuous improvement initiatives - stay abreast of industry and customer / requirements and international trends with regard to relevant standards and identify and implement improvement
