Senior Release Manager - Job Description
Location: Gauteng, Johannesburg Metro, Johannesburg

Job Duties:
- Manage and oversee the release management process, ensuring efficient and timely deployment of software releases
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including development, testing, and operations, to plan and execute release activities
- Create and maintain release schedules, ensuring alignment with project timelines and business objectives
- Perform risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to minimise disruptions during release cycles
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define release policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to industry best practises
- Monitor and track release progress, providing regular status updates to management and project teams
- Identify and escalate release-related issues or conflicts, working towards resolution to minimise impact on project timelines
- Ensure proper documentation of release processes, including release notes, deployment instructions, and post-release evaluations
- Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies related to release management, recommending process improvements
Required Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Release Manager or in a similar role
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle and release management processes
- Excellent knowledge of release management tools and techniques
- Ability to effectively coordinate and manage cross-functional teams
- Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and strong organisational skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in release management or a related role
- Experience in coordinating and managing complex software release cycles
Knowledge and Skills:
- Comprehensive knowledge of release management methodologies and best practises
- Proficiency in using release management tools and software
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to understand and interpret technical documentation
- Excellent project management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- Professional certifications in release management or project management
- Experience in the banking and finance industry
Working Conditions:
- This is a contract position requiring full-time hours
- Work is primarily office-based, with occasional remote work possibilities
- May involve occasional travel to client sites or other locations as required
