Genetic / Biotechnology Analyst
Main Purpose
The Genetic Analyst is responsible for performing tests, analyzing data, and recording results in a seed quality testing laboratory. This role involves conducting a range of genetic and seed quality tests to assess genetic traits, including DNA/RNA analysis and protein analysis. The analyst will support the day-to-day laboratory operations by preparing samples, running routine tests, and reporting findings to internal teams. The role requires a strong technical foundation in molecular biology techniques and adherence to industry standards for seed testing.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
Technical Responsibilities:
- Receives and prepare samples for testing, including seed processing, DNA/RNA extraction, and the preparation of reagents.
- Perform routine molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, protein analysis, and qualitative/quantitative PCR, following established laboratory protocols.
- Analyze test data to determine seed quality and produce detailed reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure accurate documentation and reporting of laboratory results in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Collaboration and Support:
- Collaborate with senior analysts to enhance laboratory efficiency and improve testing methodologies.
- Collaborate with internal teams to communicate test results and contribute to data interpretation.
- Participate in laboratory meetings and discussions focused on troubleshooting technical issues and improving processes.
- Assist in ensuring proper calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment and relevant software, support troubleshooting and upgrades.
- Assist with ordering of consumables and managing a functioning inventory system.
Data Management and Reporting:
- Record all test results in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), ensuring accuracy and data integrity.
- Utilize data analysis tools and dashboards to report findings and track progress against testing timelines.
- Assist in preparing reports on seed viability and genetic markers for internal and external review.
Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Follow laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs) to maintain high levels of accuracy and reliability in test results.
- Ensure all tests adhere to ISO, Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), and other regulatory standards.
- Participate in internal audits and contribute to the maintenance of the laboratory’s quality standards and certifications.
Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and guidelines, including the use of PPE and following ISO 45001 and Bayer safety standards.
- Identify and report potential safety risks in the laboratory environment and assist in maintaining a safe working space.
- Participate in one PSS- (One production system) and 5WHY problem solving identifying corrective and preventative actions.
Qualifications & Competencies
- BSC Biotechnology, Microbiology or related field.
- Honors and MSc will be an added advantage.
- 1-3 Years experience in related field.
- Knowledge of analytical chemistry and applications.
- Reasonable knowledge and practical experience with ISO and Good Laboratory Practice.
- Knowledge of SAP.
- Technical knowledge of quantitative and qualitative DNA techniques.
- Project Management.
- Report writing and presentation skills.
- Organizational (Planning skills).
- Technical and Analytical skills.
