Position Purpose
The position is responsible and accountable for the effective functioning of the Logistics Planning team to ensure the efficient supply of hire stock and raw materials from suppliers and CHEP service centres, to internal and external customers. This position will take full responsibility for C stock equipment availability and safe yard storage capacities through effective inventory planning.
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities
- Leadership of the logistics planners who are responsible for planning production targets and inventory flows across the region.
- Accountable for individual objectives regarding logistics planning in order to achieve regional and global objectives.
- Managing individual and team performance and lead the process for team engagement.
- Build, develop and maintain – Team motivation, team development, as well as team engagement with the transport network including internal and external customers.
- Ensuring adequate staffing of the team in order to support the department objectives.
- Optimise usage of CHEP systems (i.e., JDA, SAP, BW, etc.) to provide the needed data and information to manage production and inventory flows, as well as to find efficiencies.
Production Planning and Inventory Control:
- Responsible for maintaining desired inventory levels at the various service centres as well as communicating the inventory levels and stock transfer plans to internal customers.
- Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of service centre capabilities and constraints relating to specific products:
- Availability of yard space for safe storage of Hire Stock and Raw Materials
- Load handling capability and time constraints (hours of operation)
- Understanding of the new product procurement plan including quantity on order and lead times.
- Develop stock transfer / collection & delivery plan requirements (i.e. product code and status, quantity, source, destination, timing) based on equipment flows, whilst taking into consideration service centre and transport constraints.
- Develop a formalised production planning process with Operations and implement production planning for all products and service centres in order to minimise total company cost without compromising on customer availability. This would include production plan proposals incorporating changes in production volumes and changes in shifts.
- Lead and manage the inventory planning activities carried out by the Logistics Planners to ensure that customer demand is always satisfied irrespective of supply chain constraints.
- Support the development of the Annual Planning Process through the coordination of sourcing, production plan and pool flow plans across the network (Stocks and flows).
Logistics Flows:
- Develop and formalise route plans based on equipment flows / customer demand in order to reduce Logistics costs.
- Optimize stock movements through customer collections & deliveries i.e. reduce relocations.
- Increase customer collection and delivery volumes as well as direct deliveries from suppliers.
- Identify imbalances caused through customer behaviour and engage with Commercial Sales teams to influence customer behaviour.
- Perform ad hoc analysis in order to improve logistics efficiencies and reduce logistics costs.
Customer Service & Support:
- Operate within a business unit that consistently meets customer needs & expectations.
- Learn about the customer's challenges and objectives, both internal and external.
- Identify ways to support them and overcome challenges.
- Identify changes or challenges to management.
- Delivers analysis of current service and cost reviews to determine areas of opportunity.
- Supports strategic distribution and Logistics initiatives.
Logistics Revenue:
- Manage total logistics revenue, including revenue generated from relocation and revenue generated from collection and deliveries.
- Ensure that the relocation matrix is up to date, is aligned to customer behaviour / the dynamics of the pool of each product / group and provide CHEP with sufficient recovery compared to relocation costs.
- Manage the overall collection & delivery gross margin to ensure that the margin meets the target and that non-commercial deals are carefully considered and validated with relevant stakeholders, prior to agreement and implementation.
- Balancing needs of complex situations such as: plant network, hire equipment availability, customer requirements, availability of transport as well as internal CHEP requirements & systems.
- Maintaining focus on improving efficiencies and increasing revenue whilst dealing with day-to-day activities.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Qualifications
- Degree / Diploma in Engineering, Supply Chain, or Logistics
Experience
- 8 Years in a Planning, Operations, Logistics, or Supply Chain industry in fast-paced environment, preferably in FMCG.
- SAP knowledge an advantage.
- Ability to interact and positively influence all stakeholders in the supply chain, from suppliers through to operations, through to customers, both internal and external.
Skills and Knowledge
- Computer: SAP, JDA, Microsoft Office, advanced MS Excel skills, Power BI
- Personal: Team Leadership; Supply chain knowledge and applied management tools; Transport industry experience, strategic & critical thinker, worked successfully in matrix structure, strong analytical skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, strong negotiation and influencing skills.
- CHEP: Knowledge of various Planning, Logistics, Operations and Sales business processes.
