Role & Function: The Manager in Training (MIT) - is a developmental role designed to equip aspiring managers within the functional outsourcing space with the skills, knowledge, and experience necessary to lead and manage supply chain and logistics operations effectively. The MIT will undergo comprehensive training across all facets of warehouse management, including inventory control, continuous improvement staff supervision, employee relations and discipline management, health and safety compliance, logistical coordination, and specific areas such as inbound, outbound, and picking operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Training and Development:
- Participate in a structured training program to understand warehouse operations, policies, and procedures.
- Work closely with senior warehouse managers to gain hands-on experience in all areas of warehouse management.
- Attend workshops, seminars, and courses as part of the training curriculum.
- Inventory Management:
- Learn and assist in overseeing inventory levels to ensure adequate stock without overstocking.
- Understand inventory control systems and processes for tracking and managing stock.
- Participate in regular inventory audits and cycle counts.
- Staff Supervision and Discipline Management:
- Assist in managing warehouse staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluation.
- Develop leadership skills to effectively motivate and manage a diverse team.
- Learn conflict resolution and team-building techniques.
- Chairing and initiating hearings

- Operational Efficiency:
- Participate in the development and implementation of strategies to optimize warehouse operations.
- Assist in analyzing workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout to improve efficiency.
- Learn how to manage and maintain warehouse equipment and machinery.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Understand and enforce safety protocols and regulations within the warehouse.
- Participate in safety training and ensure adherence to OSHA standards.
- Assist in conducting regular safety audits and addressing any violations promptly.
- Logistics Coordination:
- Gain knowledge of inbound and outbound logistics, including shipping, receiving, and distribution processes.
- Assist in coordinating transportation and delivery schedules.
- Learn to manage relationships with suppliers, carriers, and other logistics partners.
- Inbound Operations:
- Assist in managing inbound logistics, including receiving, unloading, and checking goods.
- Learn to verify incoming shipments against purchase orders and quality standards.
- Understand the process of resolving discrepancies and handling returns.
- Outbound Operations:
- Participate in managing outbound logistics, including order picking, packing, and shipping.
- Learn to ensure timely and accurate order fulfilment.
- Assist in coordinating with carriers and managing shipment documentation.
- Picking Operations:
- Gain knowledge of the picking process, including different picking methods (e.g., batch picking, wave picking).
- Assist in optimizing picking routes and techniques to improve efficiency.
- Learn to use technology and automation in the picking process to enhance accuracy and speed.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Assist in preparing and maintaining accurate reports on warehouse performance, inventory levels, and operational efficiency.
- Learn to use warehouse management software (WMS) and other relevant technologies.
- Ensure all documentation is complete and complies with company policies and regulations.
Requirements:
- Tertiary qualification
- Two to three years experience in a warehouse or logistics role preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and warehouse management software such as SAP.
