Job Purpose
- The ability to teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and produce prospective graduates in the fields of Civil Engineering.
- Contribute to academic initiatives undertaken by the department to enhance learning according to industry and in the department’s teaching & learning goals.
- Incorporate teaching & learning, and research & innovation outcomes into an academic project.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering. All base qualifications must be in Civil Engineering.
- At least 2 years relevant teaching experience in higher education and/or 2 years industrial experience in the Civil Engineering Industry.
- Must be registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a professional within 12 months of employment.
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
- Lecturing Civil Engineering subjects in the Civil Engineering Programme.
- Develop, contribute and produce and generate new knowledge through research outputs.
- Develop innovative teaching and learning materials.
- Contribute to curriculum and programme development.
- Promote community participation, linkages, outreach and industry liaison.
- Supervise and mentor students.
- Assessment and academic development.
- Assist with departmental administration.
- Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department.
- Ensure good quality assurance practice.
- Demonstrate lecturing ability.
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
- Computer literacy in MS Office with good organizational and time management skills.
- Aptitude for continuous learning.
- Good communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of continuous evaluation and integrated assessment.
- Strong learner focus.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Coaching and mentoring skills.
