Role SummaryConservation Mounter: Pictorial ArtCollection CarePart-time, 28.8 hours (4 days) per week Permanent£ 32,338 per annum pro rataApplication deadline: 12pm (midday) on 25 October 2024About the role:To care for the collection through a combination of interventive and preventive measures in support of the museum's operating plan, and to contribute to public outreach activities of the Department of Collection Care. This role requires the post holder to be developing specialist knowledge in the mounting of pictorial art on paper to support the Museum loan and exhibition programme.Key areas of responsibility: To contribute to the conservation mounting of pictorial art on paper. To contribute to the preparation of objects for loans and exhibition. To contribute to the care of the collection through dedicated projects on collections in store. To work collaboratively with colleagues within the department and across the museum. To contribute to the department's outreach activities through public speaking, writing for social media, publishing, etc. To contribute to the development of new preventive or interventive measures. To ensure best practice and compliance with latest health and safety legislation To contribute to the conservation mounting of materials / object types outside of own specialism as necessary.About you: Recognised professional conservation qualification to degree level or equivalent, with emphasis on the conservation of the material relevant to the specialism of the role. Demonstrable practical skills in the mounting and housing of pictorial art on paper and a strong interest in the conservation of art on paper. Understanding of mechanisms involved in material deterioration. Understanding of conservation theory and ethical decision making. Relevant knowledge of health and safety. Good computing skills and proficiency with a range of IT systems. Able to undertake highly detailed tasks while working under pressure. Experience of planning own work to deliver set objectives on time and to budget. Experience as effective problem solver and decision maker. Experienced and comfortable at presenting work publicly.
