You’ll play a key role in ensuring the financial health of our growing business, from managing our accounts to liaising with external accountants.Our current financial setup is well-organised, but there’s plenty of opportunity to develop processes and make them even more efficient. This is a part-time, office-based role (approx. 24 hours per week), with flexible hours that could work within school hours.Key Responsibilities:Day-to-Day Financial ManagementFull use of Sage 50 for all functions, including:Ledger entryBank reconciliationAccounts payable/receivableProducing custom reports with Sage Report Designer and exporting data for Excel analysisMaintaining data integrity and troubleshooting as needed, with Sage Support assistanceAdvanced Excel ExpertiseWorking with Excel for:Data modellingPivot tablesVLOOKUP functionsStatutory ComplianceManaging HMRC reportingSubmitting VAT returns via Sage, including EU VATAssisting with Corporation Tax filings to ensure all statutory requirements are metBanking and Cash FlowManaging online banking, including setting up BACS paymentsOverseeing basic cash flow management, monitoring and reportingFinancial Accounting and ReportingWorking closely with external accountants to ensure accurate and timely reportingUnderstanding accounting principles to ensure all records are up to date and correctTeam ManagementManaging and supporting our part-time bookkeeping assistant to ensure smooth daily operationsPrioritising tasks effectively within the teamProcess Improvement and EfficiencyIdentifying areas for financial process improvements and system optimisationIntroducing automation where possible to increase efficiencyManagement AccountingExperience and expertise in preparing monthly financial statements, including P&L, balance sheets, cash flow statements, variance analysis and financial KPI analysis statementsBudgeting and forecasting, developing financial plans and forecastsSkills and Experience Required:Qualifications:CIMA / ACCA / ACA (or equivalent) required, along with strong practical experience in a finance management roleExperience:Minimum 5 years of experience in a hands-on finance role, ideally in an SMEFinancial Systems:Strong proficiency with Sage 50 and Excel, particularly with data modelling and analysisFamiliarity with improving financial workflows and introducing automation is a plusStatutory Knowledge:In-depth understanding of UK tax law, VAT submissions, and HMRC regulationsTeam Leadership:Previous experience managing a small finance team or assistantComfortable with being hands-on in all aspects of financial operationsProblem-Solving Ability:Ability to solve finance issues, streamline processes and provide financial insightsCommunication Skills:Ability to clearly explain financial data and concepts to non-finance colleagues and managementPersonal Attributes:Detail-oriented, organised, and capable of working independently within a small teamSomeone who shares our values of being Caring, Motivated, and GenuineCurrent Financial Setup:Our financial operations are already neat, tidy, and well-organised, but we’re always looking to improve.
