ROLE OVERVIEW The Senior Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for verifying specification, leading planning and design of electrical infrastructure and its associated plant for Electric Forecourts, Solar Hybrid & Hubs sites. This role will lead technical teams across the business and manage external suppliers to ensure designs are delivered to specification, within budget and within a timely manner across the portfolio.MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES Developing, reviewing, updating, modifying, and approving electrical infrastructure designs for Electric Vehicle Charging Forecourts including Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems and HubsReviewing and approving high voltage design from ICPs and low voltage DC & AC designs from GRIDSERVE Design Engineers ensuring projects are completed to specifications, company and H&S StandardsSupporting the design process: Electrical specification, electrical schematics, cable schedules, AutoCAD drawings, cable calculation reports, protective device settingsVerify and review designs for low voltage DC, AC (MV and LV) including Comms and Controls using Amtech, AutoCAD, MS Excel and NBS Specification writing softwareDependant on project, may be required to generate system yield simulation report using PVSYSTIdentify technical solutions to meet the needs of fast technological advances in electric vehicle charging technologyWork with teams across the business and external suppliers to ensure designs are delivered to specification, within budget and within a timely manner across the portfolio.Ensure quality of design meets CDM requirements, local/international standards and GRIDSERVE technical standardsLeading technical solutions to meet the needs of advancing Electric Vehicle Charging Technology, Renewable Energy Systems and Energy Storage SystemsCarry out electrical calculations, cable sizing, earthing calculations and providing reports as requiredPrepare cable schedules, cable calculations reports, single line diagrams and general arrangement drawing for duct routes, earthing, electrical equipment layouts as requiredRepresent engineering at technical & project meetingsLiaise with Architects, Structural Engineers, ICPs, MEP Consultants, DNOs to ensure design complianceConnections Team with compliance, commercial tenders, planning applications including grid applications as requiredAssist with defining monitoring system requirements supporting installation and commissioning activitiesResearch new technologies and provide improved project design, including equipment specificationMay be required to conduct site surveys to check project feasibility and take all relevant measurements and information to prepare the final ready to build designsAdhere to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes including anti- bribery policy and Environmental and Quality Management System, compliant with ISO standardsPERSON SPECIFICATION Significant experience working in a similar technical role on HV (11 & 33kV), LV & DC electrical systems, renewables, energy storage projectsExperience in designing DC & AC (LV) systems, understanding of electrical schematics, PV systems, layout drawings and electrical networksSpecialist experience in BESS, PV and/or DNO/IDNO networksExperience working in senior roles leading teams, acting as client expert and acting asmentor to junior engineers.Required Skills and Abilities Advanced understanding & proficiency of HV Grid studies, HV Distribution design, HV Protection Coordination and HV earthing technical processes.Advanced knowledge and understanding in designing DC & AC (LV) systems, electrical schematics, calculations and analyses, PV/renewables designsGood knowledge and understanding of H&S regulations, design regulations, electrical standards and CDM (where applicable) regulationsWorking knowledge of Amtech/Electrical OM or similar and AutoCADWorking knowledge of solar, battery storage including their specifications, cost, efficiency, code compliance, performance, and reliabilityGood level of understanding of customer substation power and control designKnowledge of safety features, grounding, disconnects, system testing, and troubleshootingAnalytical mindset with ability to analyse and interpret data and perform performance review of working systemsAttention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills and strong focus on accuracyAbility to interpret topographical drawings and survey dataCompetent applying appropriate theoretical and practical methods to design, develop and maintain engineering processes, systems, services and productsCompetent using a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technologyCompetent in providing technical and commercial management for assigned tasks
