Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and passionate SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to join our clients senior school team. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring that students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) receive the necessary support to achieve their full potential. As SENCO, you will lead the development and implementation of SEND policies and strategies, working closely with staff, parents, and external agencies to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Management: Lead the SEND department, providing guidance and support to teaching staff and ensuring the effective implementation of SEND policies and procedures.
- Assessment and Planning: Oversee the assessment of students with SEND, developing and reviewing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and ensuring that appropriate interventions are in place.
- Staff Training: Deliver training and professional development for school staff on SEND issues, including strategies for differentiating instruction and supporting diverse learning needs.
- Collaboration: Work closely with parents, carers, and external agencies to support students with SEND, ensuring open communication and a collaborative approach to their education.
- Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEND provision, making recommendations for improvements and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and best practices.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of students progress, interventions, and outcomes, ensuring that data is used effectively to inform practice.
Requirements:
- Qualifications: A recognised SENCO qualification (e.g., National Award for SEN Coordination) or willingness to work towards it. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
- Experience: Proven experience working as a SENCO or in a similar role within a senior school setting. Strong understanding of SEND legislation and best practices.
- Skills: Excellent organisational and leadership skills with the ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks effectively. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
