Running a school kitchen, efficiently, practically and within budget and providing nourishing meals for children and adults at midday, while meeting the Environmental Health standards
Main Duties
- Day to day management of school kitchen dining arrangements, ensuring a friendly and safe environment to promote school meals.
- Sorting of quantities needed for meals provided, ordering all foodstuffs from suppliers to obtain best prices and creating menus within budget to give a nutritionally balanced meal
- Cooking delicious meals for children and adults using fresh food where possible, and to meet specified dietary requirements.
- Dealing with MDSAs regarding hall supervision of children
- Sorting out problems with broken equipment etc. with site manager/engineers
- Financial management Balancing of books at end of day to make sure food provided equals money taken Checking invoices being paid out to creditors
- Maintain the kitchen and the equipment to a high standard of cleanliness and in good condition, to comply with Environmental Health standards
Supervision and Management
The job holder has no regular supervisory responsibility for staff but may assist in work familiarisation of peers and new recruits
Creativity and Innovation (i.e. Problem Solving)
The job involves problem solving such as:
Sorting of menus to give children an incentive to want school dinners Dealing with situations where equipment breaks down, resulting in change of menu Developing and implementing new recipes, using different methods of cooking food as necessary
