Formal Qualification:
- BTech or BSc Eng in Civil Engineering
- Registered with ECSA as a Professional Civil Engineer
- Maintains professional registration on an ongoing basis
Experience:
Project Management
- Assigns work, checks and manages work allocated to junior engineers, technicians or draughts people where applicable.
- Co-ordinates and takes responsibility for all aspects of a small project or a portion of a larger project.
- Programmes and ensures that deadlines are met on the project or portions of the project for which you are responsible.
- Ensures that all designs, reports and drawings produced are checked and signed off at the required level.
- Assists in compiling accurate project cost estimates and cash flow projections.
- Ensures that all drawings produced are signed and issued to site timeously.
- Effectively deals with queries from site staff, enlisting the help of supervisors where required.
- Attends and constructively contributes to design meetings and site meetings.
- Takes notes and produces minutes of meetings. Ensures that minutes are approved by the person chairing the meeting and distributes minutes no later than one week after the meeting.
- Drafts project related letters for signature by the relevant Project Manager.
- Receives and checks contractor’s payment certificates. Once verified correct, arranges for signature by the relevant project manager/project director.
- Ensures that all aspects of the project are handled strictly in accordance with the Naidu QMS.
- Makes effective use of support staff where applicable.
- Plans, organizes and controls medium sized projects and makes recommendations on alternative solutions to engineering problems with minimal guidance.
- Has the ability to manage and direct junior staff, ensuring deliverables are met.
Design, Documentation, Reporting, Contract Administration and Close Out
- Assists with the preparation of monthly status report.
- Drafts technical reports of acceptable technical and presentable quality.
- Assists with preparation of estimates for alternatives.
- Assists with the preparation of concept drawings and basic calculations.
- Assists with the preparation of basic planning and designs reports with recommendations for submission to the client.
- Prepares preliminary design plans, calculations and checks compliance with accepted design codes.
- Measures preliminary quantities and prepare estimates.
- Prepares design development and layout drawings.
- Prepares detailed design calculations.
- Prepares detailed drawings.
- Assists with the preparation of final design report.
- Attends site handover and subsequent meetings.
- Makes amendments to construction drawings as instructed by the Project Manager.
- Assists with the compilation of project specifications (Colto, SANS, GCC).
- Prepares attendance registers.
- Assists with the preparation of tender evaluation reports.
- On award, assists in compiling Contract Documentation.
- Assists the project manager in carrying out the supervision of the Contract.
- Prepares and presents technical reports, institutes changes in the methods, design or equipment with minimal guidance.
- Must be able to deliver and prepare technical papers for seminars with minimal guidance.
- Manages contractual claims and disputes with minimal guidance.
- Timeously produces as-built drawings, compiles any completion reports that may be required and gets signed off at the required level.
Tendering/marketing activities
- Develops personal relationships with, and professional respect of, your peers and superiors in Naidu Consulting and the clients with whom you interact.
- Attends Naidu Consulting sponsored and industry functions and effectively “networks” on behalf of Naidu Consulting.
- Assists in drawing up tenders and/or writing proposals.
- Aligns “self and personal” effort to the Naidu Consulting Mission / Vision / Shared values and Strategic Imperatives and institutions at junior level.
Developing self and others
- Provides technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
- Through proper exploration of engineering principles and concepts, effectively briefs draughts people and junior engineering staff.
- Achieves continued Professional Development through regular attendance at industry seminars and workshops.
- Takes post-graduate courses in line with own and company development requirements.
- Participates in Industry committees and institutions at junior level.
- Has the ability to manage and direct junior staff, ensuring deliverables are met.
