Introduction
The Chamber and Participation Team (CPT) provides the core services that facilitate Members' legislative and scrutiny work in the House of Commons Chamber, Westminster Hall, general committees and some related select committees and engages the public with Parliamentary Business.
The Vote Office publishes and distributes Parliamentary papers and provides
Member of Parliament, their staff and House Officials with the essential documents required to fulfil their Parliamentary duties, including publications formally laid before Parliament.
The Role
Working from distribution points located next to the Chamber and in Portcullis House, you will be dealing with in-person, email and phone requests for information and publications sometimes under pressure, in response to activity in the Chamber. You will be responsible for ensuring publications are appropriately stocked, use online information resources to identify and obtain publications and use high volume printers to produce hard copies when required. You will have an awareness of the current political environment and maintain effective relationships with government departments to ensure publications are available to Members.
Some of the responsibilities for this role include:
- Responding to face-to-face enquiries and requests for publications from Members of Parliament, their staff and others in a timely and effective manner
- Providing excellent customer service, acting as an ambassador for the Vote Office and the House service
- Ensuring relevant business information is available on Vote Office communication channels
- Monitoring email requests and drafting appropriate replies
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
- Experience of providing excellent customer service in pressured situations and dealing with a diverse range of customers with varying needs, particularly in relation to responding to enquiries and requests for information.
- An awareness of Parliamentary procedure and current affairs and a good appreciation of the role and work of Members of Parliament.
- Aptitude to gain understanding of process and procedures and evidence of good research skills.
- Good oral and written communications skills with experience of exercising tact and diplomacy with multiple stakeholders.
