A vacancy exists for an Infection Prevention Specialist based at Life Kingsbury Hospital , reporting to Thabiso Moleko, Nursing Manager. The role involves identifying, managing, mitigating, and evaluating infection prevention risks to patients, employees, and community stakeholders.
Critical Outputs
- Execute the hospital infection prevention strategy.
- Implement an infection prevention plan aligned to the business objectives of the unit.
- Lead the Infection Prevention Committee and manage all infection-related incidents.
- Set Infection Prevention targets with the Nursing team.
- Comply with legal and company requirements through internal audits.
- Manage findings from Department of Health inspections and internal QMS reviews.
- Monitor and evaluate close-outs from audits and inspections.
- Surveillance and reporting to minimise infection prevention risk.
- Identify and mitigate patient and environmental risks.
- Monitor high-risk patients and environments.
- Consult with subject matter experts for remedial actions.
- Communicate risks and actions to relevant committees.
- Manage occupational exposure to hazardous biological agents.
- Identify and mitigate occupational risks.
- Ensure Hep B programme is offered to all healthcare workers.
- Monitor placement of high-risk employees.
- Ensure excellence in infection prevention practice.
- Provide training and keep knowledge updated on best practices.
- Facilitate training aligned with organizational strategy.
- Induct new employees on infection prevention.
- Manage internal and external outbreaks.
- Identify and mitigate risks during outbreaks.
- Lead the outbreak task team in the event of an outbreak.
- Communicate outbreak status and prevention measures to stakeholders.
Requirements
- Qualified Infection Prevention and Control Specialist from a recognised institution.
- Sound clinical and applied Infection Prevention knowledge.
- Experience/qualification in a specialist unit is advantageous.
- Agree to enrol in the LHC certificate course if not already trained.
- Excellent basic computer skills (Microsoft Office).
- Understanding of the private healthcare industry.
