Role overview After a successful phase of scaling operations and becoming the leader in providing finance function services, the business now plans to enhance its startup offering by building out the tax and compliance services it can offer in-house. This role will be instrumental in crafting the offering and taking it to market, first to our already amazing and growing client base and then to the wider startup ecosystem. The position would ideally suit a qualified accountant (ACA) with a practice background who has developed a strong technical foundation and is now looking to take on greater responsibility within a startup environment and accelerate their career. ResponsibilitiesThis will be a varied and dynamic role and will involve the following key responsibilities:Tax and Compliance: Prepare comprehensive statutory unaudited financial statements in accordance with UK GAAP, encompassing income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and pertinent notes.Compile and submit tax computations and returns for startups, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and deadlines.Prepare and file personal tax returns, ensuring compliance with UK tax laws and regulations while identifying opportunities for tax relief and deductions.Review and authorise VAT returns, overseeing VAT inspections on behalf of clients to ensure compliance.Develop tailored accounting policies for clients, covering areas such as revenue recognition, transfer pricing, and intercompany transactions. Aid clients in navigating fundraising processes, facilitating SEIS or EIS sign-offs, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. Assist clients in maintaining accurate and up-to-date capitalisation (cap) tables, providing expertise in tracking equity ownership, managing share allocations, and supporting strategic decision-making processes related to ownership structure and shareholder communications. Finance Operations: Bookkeeping: Full ownership of all bookkeeping for clients to ensure the accuracy of financial records. Month-end: Completing all journal entries and preparing key reconciliations as part of month-end close process.Payroll: Efficiently manage client payroll operations, including monthly payroll processing, P11D calculation and submission, and proficiently addressing inquiries.AR/AP: Own all accounts receivable and payable activities, building a strong relationship with their clients and suppliers. Financial Analysis:Provide in-depth analysis of business performance required for month-end management accounts.Partner with clients’ sales and client success teams to support with commercial terms for new deals and renewals. Working closely with founders during the annual budgeting process including building an agile budget model. Provide ad-hoc analysis regarding client performance in key business areas. Skills and experienceA willing, friendly and collaborative personality is really important to us. For this role we’re also looking for the following skills and experience:A qualified accountant (ACA) with an accounting practice background ideally in business advisory services. Expert knowledge of the latest tax treatments and accounting policies. Proficiency in using accounting software (e.g., Xero, Tax Calc, PayFit, Pleo, Telleroo)Meticulous attention to detail with superb organizational skills. Accuracy essential. Have a growth mindset with a willingness to always be learning. Comfortable embracing a rapidly changing environment. We need someone who is able to work efficiently and effectively under pressure and manage multiple demands from different clients. Have a hands-on and proactive approach. Be both a curious and creative thinker, and also a results-oriented executor.Team-orientated with excellent communication and relationship building skills to effectively work with clients as well as team members.
