Purpose:
Responsible for the day to day running of the transport department nationally ensuring a safe and reliable service is offered. The responsibility will extend to developing strategies to ensure the efficient and cost-effective functioning of the department.
Requirements:
- Transport Management degree/diploma
- Minimum of 5 years in the transport industry with experience in managing a large fleet of vehicles nationally
- ± 3 years in a Transport Manager position
- Prior experience of working in a transport department and managing a national fleet of vehicles especially
- Experience in fleet maintenance and fleet maintenance programs
- Strategic planning background
- Costing and budgeting experience
- Experience in truck specifications and building
- Computer and MS Office literate
- Knowledge of tracking and camera systems
Duties include:
- Costings to operate an optimal fleet
- Understand and maintain a cost effective fleet
- Be able to cost fleet requirements for new customers
- Day to day management of the transport department nationally
- Day to day management of the tracking department as well as the vehicle tracking and camera systems on the vehicles
- Ensuring the repairs and routine maintenance is conducted
- Ensure the fleet are licenced and roadworthy (COFs)
- Ensure all assets and equipment are recorded, maintained, and managed in every aspect
- Ensure that the service schedules are as per the manufacturers specifications
- Monitor and report on the fuel consumption nationally
- Monitor vehicle performance
- Authorise and manage all vehicle repairs and maintenance on the Fleet Management Portal
- Manage the preventative maintenance of the fleet
- Manage the compliance with insurance regulations and insurance claim procedures
- Plan and implement vehicle budgets
- Manage the recruitment of permanent and temporary staff for the vehicles
- Manage and co-ordinate staff activities and responsibilities including discipline in accordance with the company policy
- Conduct appraisals and development opportunities for staff
- Authorise and maintain leave records for the transport department
- Reporting of incidents and accidents with full investigation and backing report
- Identify training and continued driver training programs
- Management of traffic offences
- Standard Operating Procedures are maintained and updated
- Prepare reports and presentations
- Keep current and maintain awareness of the trends in the transport industry
