Purpose
To provide support to members of the Corporate Finance team on strategic projects, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures in order to enable the financial services provider to stay progressive, competitive and succeed in its industry.
Minimum Experience
1 - 3 years experience in a similar environment
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor`s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas (NQF Level 07) in Finance Economics and Accounting
Additional Minimum Qualifications
CA (SA) or similar professional qualification (newly qualified)
Process
- Accountable for the execution of specialised work including the improvement of quality, standards and outputs within defined work routines and operating procedures.
- Proactively solves problems, determines root-cause and applies solutions in line with guidelines and providing the necessary information to solve problems related to area of specialisation.
- Plan for own task execution and advises on improvements related to area of specialisation.
- Contribute to the valuation of companies based upon research on inputs to valuation.
- Support the preparation of presentations, papers and other documents on proposed deals or projects for internal and external approvals.
- Build relationships and liaise with colleagues across the Standard Bank Group and assist with interactions with external advisers and stakeholders on transaction-specific matters.
- Conduct research on competitors and analyse trends in industries, including ratios, market shares, market valuation multiples.
- Contribute towards the preparation of professional documentation and board documents in order to present status and ensure transparency.
- Evaluate potential opportunities, which includes use of a rigorous screening process that will bring quality acquisition and investment ideas to the IAM executive committee and key Client Segments executives to make informed decisions.
- Provide input and support the execution of strategic transactions, projects and initiatives such as joint ventures, divestitures, licensing and partnership activities to ensure alignment with the risk appetite and strategic aspirations of the organisation.
- Support the team with analysis and valuations of new business opportunities, including the development of commercial business cases for the Head of Corporate Finance to enable the IAM executive committee and key Client Segments executives to make informed decisions.
- Support Corporate Finance team members with the structuring and negotiation of the detailed terms of transactions to enable efficient and effective execution of the deal.
- Contribute towards professional documentation for decision making bodies and external parties in order to present status and ensure transparency at various forums.
- Act as a reliable point of contact for information in cross functional teams in developing acquisition business case analyses to ensure seamless deal execution.
- Perform analyses of market trends to identify opportunities for growth within an existing product line or industry sector to enable the financial services organisation to grow and succeed.
Customer
- Ensure own understanding and adherence to customer service delivery and Treating the Customer Fairly (TCF) principles to provide specialist support and guidance.
Finance
- Adhere to specified standards, policies and procedures to prevent potential losses/wastage related to the area of specialisation.
- Support the execution of smaller, less complex transactions in order to mitigate significant financial risks and grow the organisation.
- Conduct detailed financial analysis and support the preparation of business cases, financial models and operating budgets for valuation of acquisitions and assess strategic investment initiatives to enable effective decision making.
- Support the evaluation of potential mergers and acquisitions based on financial projections and industry trends to enable the Head, Corporate Finance to influence strategic decisions across the different Client Segments and at IAM executive committee.

- Contribute positively to own area-specific knowledge improvement associated with area of specialisation.
Governance
- Comply to set governance and compliance procedures and processes related to an area of work and continuously identify, rectify and escalate risks where necessary.
- Conduct detailed research and due diligence on elements of target companies, opportunities and regulatory requirements to support the acquisition recommendations presented to the IAM executive committee.
- Support the preparation and retention of acquisition related documents such as Non-Disclosure Agreements, Memoranda of Understanding, and Purchase Agreements with the internal legal function and external counsel.
- Assist with hypothesis development, due diligence, preparation and presentation of internal documents, and negotiation of commercial terms and associated legal agreements.
