The Job: Practice Manager
The Practice Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of Ophthalmology surgical facility. This role involves managing staff, optimising operational efficiency, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations including Care Quality Commission (CQC), and maintaining high standards of patient care. The Practice Manager will work closely with surgeons and other healthcare professionals to ensure the facility operates smoothly and meets both financial and quality benchmarks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Management:
- Oversee the daily operations of the surgical facility, ensuring efficient and effective workflow.
- Manage scheduling of surgeries, patient appointments, and ensure optimal use of surgical suites.
- Ensure that all surgical equipment and supplies are adequately stocked, maintained, and in good working order.
- Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and patient care.
- Staff Management:
- Lead, manage, and mentor a team of administrative and clinical staff, including training, and performance evaluations.
- Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, accountability, and professional growth.
- Coordinate with HR to manage staff schedules, payroll, and compliance with employment laws.
- Financial Management:
- Prepare and manage the facility’s budget, including monitoring expenses, revenue, and financial performance.
- Work with billing and coding staff to ensure accurate and timely billing processes.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and revenue enhancement without compromising patient care.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure the facility complies with all local regulations, including health and safety standards.
- Oversee accreditation processes and ensure ongoing compliance with accrediting bodies.
- Implement and monitor protocols for infection control, patient privacy, and other regulatory requirements.
- Patient Experience:
- Ensure a high level of patient satisfaction by managing the quality of patient care and services.
- Address and resolve patient complaints or concerns promptly and professionally.
- Work with staff to continuously improve the patient experience and service delivery.
- Strategic Planning and Growth:
- Participate in strategic planning for the facility’s growth and expansion of services.
- Collaborate with Medical director and surgeons to identify opportunities for new procedures and services.
- Develop and execute marketing strategies to promote the facility and attract new patients.
- Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Management, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred): preferred but not essential
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in management, with at least 2 years in a surgical or medical facility.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, surgical procedures, and operational best practices.
- Proven experience in managing budgets, financial analysis, and cost control.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations and make critical decisions quickly.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite
- Working Conditions:
- The role is primarily based in a surgical facility with a fast-paced environment.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required depending on the needs of the facility.
