Context
- The current Head of Marketing has been in the role for 14 years and will transition out at the end of December 2025.
- The business knows that it cannot replace the incumbent, so it is looking for a person with a strong marketing foundation and the raw talent to learn enough in a 12-month handover, to assume this critical role.
- The ideal start date is on or before 1st Jan 2025.
- The hand-over period will be 12 months of hands-on training, whereafter the individual, being sufficiently proficient, will assume the Head of Marketing role.
Key deliverables
- Take responsibility for drafting and executing the annual marketing plan, go to market strategy across Africa, and managing team members.
- Identify and plan differentiated and impactful marketing strategies/materials to meet different targeted audience requirements.
- Build, manage and mentor a high-performing marketing team.
- Drive the implementation of marketing campaigns that meet business objectives and drive sales accepted leads.
- Direct and support market research collection, analysis, and interpretation of market data for short- and long-term market forecasts and reports.
- Work closely with the sales department to align sales and marketing strategies.
- Manage marketing budget and expenditure.
- Maintain brand standards and ensure compliance across all marketing and communications channels.
- Identify competitors and evaluate their strategies and positioning and devise counterstrategies.
- Build long-term relationships with employees, clients, business partners, and other stakeholders.
Skills, competencies & abilities
- Designing and implementing integrated marketing strategies to create awareness of the company’s business activities to drive sales accepted leads.
- Managing the department and providing guidance and feedback to other marketing professionals.
- Producing ideas for promotional events or activities and organising them efficiently.
- A strong understanding of traditional marketing.
- Exquisite communication and interpersonal skills.
- Up to speed with current and online marketing techniques and best practices.
- Thorough knowledge of web analytics (e.g., Google Analytics, WebTrends etc.) and Google Ads.
- Customer-oriented approach with aptitude.
- Strong understanding of Business-to-business (B2B) marketing practices.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Sharp analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent leadership and organising skills.
- Analytical and creative thinking.
Education & qualifications
- Degree in Marketing, Communication, or a similar relevant field.
Details of experience
- Over 5 years working experience in the position of Head of Marketing / Marketing Director / Marketing Manager / CMO or similar.
- Proven track record of developing and executing successful marketing strategies.
- Outstanding communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
- In-depth knowledge of market research.
- Experience with enterprise-level email marketing and automation tools, such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud Engagement / Hubspot.
- Experience working with a CRM tool such as Salesforce and reporting marketing successes from Salesforce.
- Experience and knowledge working with audiences in sub-Saharan Africa would be beneficial.
- Previous experience updating website content for WordPress websites.
