To promote the wellbeing of every young person and to ensure that the residential care environment is able to meet basic care, developmental care and therapeutic care needs for healthier growth and further development.
Role and Responsibilities
- Spend time interacting with the children, playing, talking, observing, etc.
- Supervise the children. Be present and visible at all times.
- Manage behaviour.
- Observe and record behaviour and emotional responses of children and design programmes and activities as a team, in order to meet the needs which you have observed.
- Draw up a holiday programme as a team.
- Ensure that children attend therapy sessions and are ready for the social workers when they are fetched.
- Report and record any unusual behaviour or incidents immediately to the supervisor.
- Provide age-appropriate equipment and toys. Get rid of broken equipment and toys and monitor children caring for the equipment and packing away after use.
- Life space intervention with the children.
- Activity programming especially during evenings and weekends.
- Research, prepare, plan and facilitate educative age-appropriate campaigns with children.
- Teach the children life skills and independence.
- Supervise meal times.
- Make school lunch and prepare for school.
- Administer medication.
- First Aid – ensure that first aid boxes are stocked and that dispensing medication is recorded.
- Fulfill responsibilities laid out in each child’s individual Development Plan (IDP).
- In emergency situations, it may be required to stand in on a night shift.
Home Maintenance
- Ensure that playgrounds and open spaces are clean after children’s activities.
- Report both inside and outside physical building and its equipment damages to the secretary for logging.
Administration
- Process notes/observation reports.
- Behaviour management reports.
- Incident reports.
- Feedback reports.
- Weekly typed plans submitted to CYC manager every Monday.
- Monthly reports typed according to provided format and submitted by the 28th of each month.
Supervision & Training
- Attend in-service training as and when offered by Arcadia and other professional development training offered by Chevrah Kadisha.
- Attend CYCWS group supervision fortnightly.
- Attend consultative individual supervisions fortnightly on scheduled appointment with CYC programme manager.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Matric
- Any CYCW with a CYCW Degree – level 8, CYCW B-Tech Degree – level 7, CYCW Diploma – level 6 or NQF-CYCW. FETC – Level 4 qualifies for the position.
- Proof of qualification in CYCW.
- Proof of registration with the SACSSP.
- This position requires 3 – 5 years of experience working in children life spaces, preferably in residential care life space work.
Preferred Skills
- Can speak and write in English.
