Description
Investec Bank Limited is hiring a Financial Crime Investigator. This candidate will contribute to Investec's ability to effectively detect, deter and prevent financial crime risks (money laundering, terrorist financing, bribery, corruption, and sanctions risk). The candidate must make sense of complex financial crime threats facing Investec, engage with colleagues to enable further enquiries to take place, and produce analysis to support the financial crime compliance teams and senior management in understanding and mitigating the financial crime and reputational risks facing Investec.
The successful candidate must deliver on the following key objectives:
Identify and investigate money laundering, terrorist financing, bribery, corruption, and sanctions risks in Investec's client base (including risks presented by prospective clients). In addition to conducting investigations, provide advice, support, and guidance on financial crime related client matters, which includes horizon scanning for future risks, communicating with business on the financial crime and reputational risks linked to clients and prospective clients, and contribute to enhancing the Bank's monitoring and risk controls. Combine multi-sourced information (internal and external), including transactional data, adverse media, company financials, other company data; as well as interpreting information from various systems and records and evaluating this in the context of possible crimes being committed. Produce well-conceptualised and written reports with evidence-backed analysis. Ability and willingness to conduct investigations across the spectrum of complexity – single subject matter to larger-scale investigations. Assist with the testing / validation of detection / analytical models, as needed. Work with Client Operations teams on investigations. Contribute to the enhancement of existing financial crime compliance procedures, and controls. Attend client engagements for financial crime related matters, where necessary. Contribute to the various decision forums, where necessary. Contribute to developing and conducting training for the financial crime compliance and relevant business communities.
Experience, skills and capability
Academic Qualifications
An appropriate tertiary qualification, preferably in law, forensics, accounting, data or investigative journalism.
Work Experience
A minimum of 12+ years' experience in complex investigations, forensics, forensic accounting or investigative journalism. Experience in political risk a plus.
Technical Competencies
Proven financial crime knowledge and experience and investigation / forensic skills. Demonstrable knowledge of and interest in South Africa's political-economic context. Excellent data analysis skills with the ability to find, clean, analyze, and extract and visualise key findings. Ability to distil complex problems and write, present and deliver within demanding deadlines. Advanced excel skills. A strong sense of accountability, a cross-functional collaborator, and has a "take ownership" mentality to solving messy/complex problems. Possesses strong working knowledge of financial crimes trends and typologies. Ability to prioritise workflows, ensure deadlines are met, and facilitate open communication with your manager. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and collaborative skills, and the ability to concisely present key findings to stakeholders. Ability to work independently and have strong analytical, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills. Highly organised with the ability to multi-task and work under stringent deadlines. Strong teamwork, interpersonal and relationship building skills.
