Technical Manager/Senior Flavourist - Sub-Saharan Africa

Our client is a leading global FMCG company providing products and solutions across a broad front in the fast-moving consumer goods environment on all the continents.
Products and solutions are provided in the following areas:
- taste, texture & health
- perfumery and beauty
- human health, nutrition & care
The company wishes to appoint an experienced senior flavourist professional as technical manager & senior flavourist to join the EMEA team, with special focus on leading a team of professionals and technologists serving sub-Saharan Africa.
The ideal incumbent will have well-developed leadership and management skills and experience in the flavour creation arena.
The position will be based in South Africa.
Experience, Know-How & Competencies should include:
- a perfect knowledge of the creation palette (flavouring & non-flavouring) including chemical structure and physico-chemical parameters;
- flavour creation practice;
- subject matter expertise in the flavour science;
- knowledge and understanding of regulatory, cost, sensory target and technical constraints in the industry;
- well versed in the use of AI guided flavour creation tools;
- well-developed customer centricity skills;
- well-developed business acumen.
Key Performance Areas:
Amongst others, responsibilities will include:
- leading and managing application technologists;
- ensuring business unit strategies are executed within the team;
- recommending new and innovative industrial processes for new product lines and installations for clients;
- working in close collaboration with other regional technical teams;
- preparing and leading client technical presentations;
- supporting commercial/business development team with presentation and application;
- collaborating with laboratory professionals in respect of best of breed laboratory practices;
The Requisite Qualifications, Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, And Experience:
Qualifications:
- At least a BSc degree in a relevant discipline, e.g. food science, chemistry or similar is non-negotiable.
- A postgraduate qualification in food science or chemistry, such as an MSc or a PhD will be advantageous.
- A postgraduate business qualification would be advantageous.
Experience & Know-How:
- A technical background in food science/the food industry/chemistry is non-negotiable.
- A minimum of 8, preferably 10+ years of professional experience in the food/flavour industry.
- A broad knowledge of the food industry, especially as it relates to flavour creation.
- A well-developed/subject matter expertise level of know-how in respect of sweet goods, beverages and savoury food categories.
- Solid experience in leading and managing a qualified/experienced technical team in the flavour creation industry.
- Well-developed skills in leading and managing people.
- Ability to lead and manage multiple projects and engage in sound self-management to achieve objectives.
- Well-developed analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Well-developed strategic thinking abilities.
- Well-developed innovation skills and mindset.
- Fluency in the English language.
- Personal and interpersonal gravitas and the ability to influence and persuade at all levels with all stakeholders internally and externally.
- Demonstrable customer centricity.
- Well-developed rational and organisation management skills and protocols.
- Well-developed business nous will be required.
