Purpose of this position: The purpose of this position is to ensure total control over the pallet repair plant and to achieve maximum results for the shift. The Plant Manager is required to manage (with the assistance of 2 Supervisors) a complement of between 68 waged staff members to ensure maximum output at acceptable quality standards, within budget and without any damage to the environment or injury to the employee.
Day to day HR and IR functions to be professionally managed to ensure that employee satisfaction as well as good communication and resolution between management and employees are achieved.

- Managing plant cost, production, ensuring high physical throughput.
- Ensuring the plant is fully manned with trained staff on Work and Safety procedures.
- Planning and executing preventative maintenance programs in respect of plant and property.
- Ensuring the OHS Act and Safety procedure are adequately maintained according to Company standards
- Supervising the issuing and use of tools, equipment and PPE
- Brilliant implementation of all processes and procedures
- Maintaining accurate reporting of production and stock, participating in regular audits
- Maintaining of high quality standards and procedures to meet maximum customer satisfaction.

- Review Forklift Exception Reports and implement control measures
Authority/Decision Making:
- Authorise leave
- Make informed cost decisions where the plant is concerned
- People decisions – such as hiring, discipline/dismissing and IR problems
- Purchase decisions – recommend and authorise within scope
- Handle IR problems including disciplinary action and initiation of dismissal hearings
- Rotate outsourced staff to suit required outcome
Qualifications:
- Essential: Matric with Production Diploma (beneficial)
- Preferred: Knowledge of Six Sigma will be an added advantage
Experience:
- 3 to 5 years production experience as well as working in a strong unionised environment
- 3 to 5 years experience of supervising and motivating staff
Skills and Knowledge:
- Well developed communication skills (verbal & written)
- A sense of urgency regarding work duties, regarding accuracy and detailed results
- Ability to work successfully in a matrix structure
- Display numeric skills and computer proficiency
- Supervisory skills with an extensive knowledge of Industrial Relations
- Administration of stock levels, raw material usage etc
- A well-balanced person who can focus and perform under pressure
