Our client is an electronic communications manufacturer and supplier based in Edenvale and they are looking for a skilled Support / RF Technician to join their team as soon as possible.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
As a Support and RF Technician, you will be responsible for providing technical support, troubleshooting, and ensuring the proper functioning of customer systems. You will handle a wide range of tasks, including installing, configuring, and maintaining alarm systems and radio communication systems. You will also conduct performance testing, provide on-site and remote customer support, and assist with both national and international clients.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical Support Desk
- Telephonic and email support for company products and various alarm panels.
- Custodian of the 24hr support line and the Technical Support Mailbox.
- Provide support nationally and internationally, including control room design related to company products.
- Provide internal technical support to departments as needed.
Radio Frequency (RF) System Installation & Maintenance
- Installing and testing antenna systems, including towers and antennas, to ensure optimal signal transmission.
- Configuring and maintaining radio equipment, such as base stations, mobile units, and microwave systems.
- Conducting regular maintenance and inspections of radio communication systems to ensure they are in proper working order.
- Diagnosing and repairing problems with radio communication systems, including fixing faults in wiring, circuit boards, and other electrical components.
- Documenting system configurations and maintenance activities and keeping accurate records of equipment inventory.
- Interacting with clients and stakeholders and providing technical support as needed.
- Knowledge of how to provide excellent customer service, including understanding customer needs, providing support, and resolving problems.
Network Maintenance
- Field repairs and upgrades of network and communication equipment.
- Set up and test new base and repeater equipment.
Equipment & Product Testing
- Testing products and assisting with development product testing.
- Fault finding down to component level.
- Creation of manuals and documentation.
Technical Reporting
- Compile technical reports, including network activity, GPRS downtime, and radio activity reports.
Sales Support
- Assist sales with technical queries and participate in sales meetings.
- Support customer contracts and maintenance goals.
Field Support
- Provide on-site support during working hours and after-hours standby duty for VHF and GPRS customers, according to business requirements.
Training
- Conduct training sessions for customers on company products as required.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Matric.
- Degree or completed coursework in Engineering or Electronics or relevant technical qualification certificate.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Understanding of RF & Cellular communication.
- Knowledge of networks and network infrastructure.
- Knowledge of alarm communication technology in the security industry.
- Knowledge of the operations within the security industry.
- Sales capabilities to upsell the company product range.
- Thorough understanding of electronics principles and design.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Detail oriented and organized.
- Excellent problem-solving ability.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to read and understand electronic circuits.
