Overall Purpose of the Position:
The Head of IT plays a key leadership role and is responsible for overseeing the company's IT infrastructure, network management, and digitisation initiatives. This role ensures the seamless operation of the company’s IT environment, driving strategic technology projects that align with business goals and support the company’s growth and innovation. The role will work closely with the relevant Executive to develop and execute strategies that optimize the company's IT infrastructure, enhance digital capabilities, and ensure high levels of service availability, security, and performance.
Key Performance Areas (KPAs) & Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Infrastructure Management:
- Overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of the company’s IT infrastructure, including servers, storage, and cloud services
- Ensuring the scalability, reliability, and security of the IT infrastructure to meet current and future business needs
- Leading the evaluation and adoption of new technologies to improve infrastructure efficiency and effectiveness
Network Management:
- Managing the company’s network architecture, ensuring robust and secure connectivity across all locations
- Overseeing network operations, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization of network performance
- Implementing network security measures to protect against cyber threats and ensure compliance with relevant regulations
Digitisation Initiatives:
- Leading the company’s digitisation efforts, including the automation of processes and the adoption of digital tools and platforms
- Collaborating with business units to identify opportunities for digital transformation and drive the implementation of digital solutions
- Monitoring and evaluating the impact of digitisation projects on business performance, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives
Strategic Planning:
- Working closely with the line manager to develop and execute IT strategies that align with the company’s overall business strategy
- Providing input into the long-term vision for the company’s technology landscape, identifying key trends and innovations
- Developing and manage the IT budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources while delivering high-quality services
Team Leadership:
- Leading, mentoring, and developing a team of IT professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional growth
- Setting performance objectives, conducting regular performance discussions, and providing ongoing feedback and coaching
- Ensuring the IT team is equipped with the necessary skills and tools to meet the company’s evolving technology needs
Vendor Management:
- Managing relationships with key technology vendors and service providers, negotiating contracts and ensuring service level agreements (SLAs) are met
- Overseeing the procurement of hardware, software, and services, ensuring alignment with the company’s technology strategy and budget
Risk Management and Compliance:
- Identifying and mitigating risks related to IT infrastructure, network operations, and digitisation projects
- Ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices, including data protection and cybersecurity
Reporting and Analytics:
- Providing regular updates to line manager and other senior leaders, where required, on the status of IT infrastructure, network performance, and digitisation initiatives
- Developing and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of IT operations and projects
Ideal Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, network management, and digital transformation, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
- Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, networking, cloud computing, and cybersecurity
- Proven track record of leading successful digitisation and infrastructure projects
- Experience managing IT budgets and vendor relationships
- Relevant certifications such as ITIL, PMP, or CISSP (Advantageous)
- The key technical competencies include project management, technical expertise, risk management and budget management
- Must be willing to work on site, travel to sites (Parow, Belville, Brooklyn & Delft) and work outside of normal working hours
