Description
Reporting to the Vice President Global Patient Solutions (GPS), the GM South Africa will be responsible for overseeing the Gilead business in the country and leading the Gilead team in South Africa. This role involves providing strategic direction and fostering effective cross-functional leadership to ensure a cohesive team culture that drives the business towards achieving its ambitious performance goals across key geographies. These objectives include meeting revenue and profit targets, successfully launching new products, and ensuring compliance with Gilead's values, policies, and local business conduct requirements.
The GM South Africa will collaborate closely with the GPS team, Intercontinental (ICR), and global teams to align strategic initiatives with global product strategies and capitalize on product lifecycle opportunities within the country.
The position will be based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Managing business relationships, contract negotiations, supply and tender management, and forecasts in-country
- Acting as the primary company representative in South Africa, overseeing legal and fiscal responsibilities, and serving as the main point of contact for legal and statutory matters
- Leading the establishment of the South Africa affiliate, ensuring alignment with Gilead's values and business culture while respecting the local cultural context
- Driving sales and profit growth, developing budgets, optimizing the product portfolio, and ensuring timely reporting
- Coordinating access programs for antiviral and anti-infective portfolios focused on treatment and prevention
- Engaging with key stakeholders such as health authorities, opinion leaders, and policy makers to position the company strategically within South Africa
- Negotiating access and shaping policies across therapy areas with relevant stakeholders
- Building and developing a high-caliber team, fostering a leadership culture, and driving organizational success
- Providing motivational leadership, contributing to company growth, and collaborating with senior management to achieve revenue targets
Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned leader with extensive experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, particularly in sales, marketing, and external affairs. Key qualifications include:
