Job Responsibilities
- Promote and assure adherence to safety, health, and environmental procedures.
- Identify unsafe and hazardous situations.
- Diagnose incidents and accidents by completing root cause analyses and take corrective action.
- Stop work in unsafe areas.
- Implement compliance requirements.
- Communicate compliance changes.
Planning, Leading and Controlling
- Support and participate in sub-functional change management to drive transformation and optimisation.
- Identify and recommend initiatives aimed at eliminating waste, improving productivity, and reducing operating costs within scope.
- Manage operations and activities of the engineering function within the area of control.
- Obtain, check, and refine information. Collate and submit reports.
- Run data exception reports and take corrective action.
Asset Care & Maintenance
- Monitor maintenance and repairs.
- Provide support and assistance to the department.
- Monitor maintenance, installations, and repair of electrical equipment and power supply units and lines on planned maintenance and breakdown work orders.
- Identify recurring problems and derive creative solutions involving team members or using own vocational knowledge and experience.
- Initiate and conduct root cause analysis in line with procedure to extend mean time between failures.
- Produce procedures and processes as remedial action/outcome and implement in own area and recommend updates to the planned maintenance system for changes required.
Cost Planning and Management
- Assist with compilation of maintenance budget and submit for approval.
- Identify and develop cost-effective processes to increase efficiency and reduce cost drivers.
- Continuously review cost vs. benefit and report recommendations.
- Conduct root cause analysis of machinery failures and regular high-cost replacements to address asset performance problems and/or to reduce costs.
- Identify cost savings initiatives and implement where possible while still meeting department objectives.
People Management
- Supervise and plan subordinate activities to ensure effective task execution and departmental operations.
- Supervise subordinates' key performance areas by setting and monitoring performance standards and taking actions to correct deviations to achieve the section's objectives.
- Manage training of subordinates against development plans and performance contracts.
- Monitor the execution of asset care activities.
- Ensure operational plan is implemented.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Minimum Qualifications:
- Grade 12 certificate or relevant national NQF level qualification.
Experience:
- 5 years’ experience in a maintenance environment in mining.
- 2 years supervisory experience in a maintenance environment in mining.
Technical Experience:
- Supervising maintenance employees in a mining environment.
- Planning and evaluation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
