Overview of Duties:
We are seeking an experienced, dynamic, and highly organized individual to fill the dual role of Research Associate and Project Manager for the multi-site HLA project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This role involves both managing the logistical and administrative aspects of the project across multiple countries and contributing to cutting-edge research focused on understanding the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) landscape across the African continent. The successful candidate will coordinate diverse teams, ensure seamless project execution, and advance research objectives related to the project.
Overview of duties:
- Coordinate and manage research activities between multiple collaborating research sites across different African countries, ensuring alignment with project objectives, milestones, deliverables, and timelines.
- Conduct HLA typing experiments and data analyses and oversee the planning and execution of ELISpot assays and other flow cytometry-based T cell assays across the different collaborating sites.
- Oversee data collection and analysis to ensure accurate and high-quality results are obtained from all research sites.
- Implement quality control measures to maintain high-quality, integrity, and accuracy of HLA typing and other T cell-based assay results.
- Ensure that all experimental procedures align with the project goals.
- Manage and integrate data from various sites, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
- Identify potential risks associated with multi-site coordination and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Address and resolve project-related issues promptly to ensure smooth project execution.
- Deliver timely and detailed updates on project progress, including in-depth status reports and key insights into milestones, challenges, and achievements.
- Assist with tracking and organizing research data, samples, and documentation. Help maintain databases and filing systems to ensure efficient management of ongoing projects.
- Maintain research records of study activities, including samples and all study-related data.
- Contribute to writing and publishing research papers and presenting research findings to academic and professional audiences.
- Assist with organizing trainings, workshops, and conferences.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Relevant PhD degree in a Biomedical field.
- At least 3-5 years of experience in research, particularly in genetics or molecular biology research.
- In-depth knowledge of HLA typing, ELISpot and cell proliferation assay techniques, flow cytometry, and genetic research methodologies.
- Experience in next-generation sequencing (NGS) will be an advantage.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage and coordinate research activities across multiple countries.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Skills Required:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage with a variety of stakeholders, including funders, senior management, collaborators, and external partners.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to work well under pressure, manage multiple responsibilities, adjust to shifting priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent computer literacy and strong analytical and research skills, with proficiency in data analysis using various statistical software.
- Report writing, development of research manuscripts, and presentations for academic and professional audiences.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide teams to achieve project objectives.
