A vacancy exists for a Bed Bookings Clerk based at Life Hilton Private Hospital , reporting to the Reception Supervisor. The incumbent will be responsible for the pre-admission of patients and ensure that patients have approved authorization.

- Providing a prompt, courteous service to all patients, visitors, wards, doctors, colleagues and other hospitals.
- Mitigating the risk of potential bad debts.
- Active risk management by means of obtaining prosthetic limits, co-payments, etc.
- Positive identification of all patients.
- Determination of waiting periods if any.
- Be able to communicate with stakeholders.
- Improve patient satisfaction and patient centricity.
- Relieve in Admissions Department from time to time and work flexible work hours when needed.
- Adhering to all admission and related protocols.
- Be able to self-manage workload, but also work effectively in a team environment.
- Need to be able to perform under pressure.
- Collection of co-payments, private fees when applicable as well as related documents.
- High standard of completion of documentation.
- Telephone answering duties as per LHC policies.
- Receiving and handling of cash according to company cash management protocols.
- Ensure appropriate staffing – booking additional staff as required.
- Authorisation of chronic and acute patients.
- Co-ordination of patient booking, sending patient’s prescription to the relevant pharmacies.
- Ensure effective control of stock, accuracy of billing.
- Elimination of medico legal risks through the correct identification and filing of patient’s documentation.
- Ensure effective communication between patients and colleagues.
- Attend meetings and in-service training.
- Knowledge of emergency plans and actions.
- Candidate needs to be flexible with regards to working hours including night duty, weekends public holidays and overtime.
Requirements
- Grade 12.
- 3-5 years Secretary/PA Experience, experience with stock control within a Trauma Unit (advantageous).
- Experience within a healthcare environment including people management and customer service experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of admissions procedures.
- Understanding of the private healthcare industry, its challenges and role players would be an advantage.
- Basic understanding of financial principles.
- Computer proficiency.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills a prerequisite.
- Experience in dealing with customers.
- Knowledge of hospital procedures and medical terminology will be advantageous teamwork essential.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- The position requires an enthusiastic, motivated and well-organised individual.
- Ability to multi-task between Ward Clerk and Bed Booking responsibilities.
