We are looking for a Fleet Manager with experience within the FMCG industry based in the Centurion area.
Job Purpose:
The Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing all fleet operations to ensure efficiency, compliance and cost effectiveness within the 3 Distribution Centre’s (Pretoria, Pinetown and Cape Town). This role includes maintaining vehicles, ensuring adherence to South African road and traffic laws and managing logistics associated with the fleet.
Requirements:
- Diploma or degree in Logistics, Transport Management or related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in fleet or logistics management.
- Minimum of at least 5 years proven management experience.
FMCG industry experience - Familiarity with South African road and traffic laws, including AARTO.
- Experience with cross border fleet operations and relevant customs regulations.
- Proficiency in fleet management software.
- Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance and repair.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership and communication abilities
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Responsibilities:
Fleet Operations
- Oversee the acquisition, maintenance and disposal of vehicles in the fleet, including those of the operations teams (Area Managers).
- Develop and implement fleet policies, procedures and standards.
- Monitor fuel consumption, mileage and overall vehicle efficiency.
- Ensure all vehicles comply with South African traffic and road safety regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections to maintain vehicles in optimal working conditions.
Route Planning
- Plan and optimize delivery routes to minimize costs and maximize efficiency.
- Ensure timely delivery of goods and services.
- Co-ordinate with internal departments to align fleet operations with company goals.
- Track and monitor driver locations and adherence to designated route plans, ensuring efficient and timely deliveries while maintaining compliance with operational standards.
- Manage all aspects of cross-border deliveries, including route planning, compliance with customs regulations, documentation, and coordination with relevant stakeholders to ensure timely and efficient delivery.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure vehicles have valid licenses, permits and insurance coverage.
- Manage all documentation related to AARTO, including processing fines, implementing driver deductions, and issuing warnings in accordance with regulatory and company policies.
- Investigate and report vehicle accidents or incidents.
Cost Management
- Manage fleet budget and reduce operational costs
- Negotiate with suppliers and vendors for vehicle parts, services and fuel contracts.
- Track and analyze fleet performance to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Oversee fuel and toll usage, ensuring accurate tracking, management, and reporting to optimize cost efficiency and operational transparency.
- Monitor and optimize tyre performance and efficiency, ensuring proper maintenance, usage, and cost-effectiveness to support overall fleet operations.
Staff Management
- Schedule driver shifts and assign routes
- Evaluate driver performance and provide constructive feedback.
- Conduct debriefings of all trips with drivers to review trip performance, address any issues encountered, and ensure proper documentation of trip details.
- Recruit, train and manage drivers and fleet staff.
- Motivate, guide, counsel, and discipline staff as needed to maintain high performance standards, foster teamwork, and address any performance or behavioral issues in alignment with company policies.
- Perform any other reasonable duty as instructed by management and complete the tasks.
