NewSpace Systems is a product development and manufacturing aerospace engineering company in Somerset West that has a permanent position for a Packaging Coordinator who will oversee all activities related to the packaging of components from Test finalisation to final packaging for shipping.
KEY TASKS
General responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily operations of the packaging department.
- Supervise and manage packaging staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation.
- Develop and implement operational strategies to improve efficiency and productivity.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and safety standards, including GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).
- Implement and monitor quality control procedures to ensure products meet quality standards.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of the packaging process.
- Identify areas for process improvement and implement changes to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
- Utilize lean manufacturing principles to streamline packaging operations.
- Oversee inventory levels of packaging materials and supplies.
- Create Requisitions for packaging material.
- Ensure timely ordering and restocking of materials to prevent shortages and production delays.
- Coordinate with other departments, such as production, quality assurance, and logistics, to ensure smooth operations.
- Communicate effectively with team members, providing clear instructions and feedback.
- Develop and conduct training programs for packaging staff on proper techniques, safety protocols, and quality standards.
- Encourage continuous learning and development within the team.
- Maintain accurate records of packaging activities, including production reports, quality reports, and inventory logs.
- Prepare and present regular reports on department performance, highlighting key metrics and areas for improvement.
- Address and resolve issues that arise during packaging operations, including equipment malfunctions and workflow bottlenecks.
- Implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence of problems.
- Ensure all packaging equipment is properly maintained and functioning.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams for regular servicing and repairs.
- Enforce safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
- Ensure that all packaging activities comply with health and safety regulations.
- Manage the packaging department’s budget, including cost control and financial planning.
- Monitor expenses and implement cost-saving measures where possible.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the packaging department.
- Encourage and implement suggestions from team members for improving packaging processes and efficiency.
- Responsible for planning and scheduling of packaging activities.
- Manage and ensure that packaging plan and scheduling are adhered to.
Line Management:
- Time and attendance management.
- Identify resource requirements as needed.
- Ensure staff adhere and comply with company policies.
- Conduct performance management.
- Support Health & Safety.
- Management of poor performance and upholding the disciplinary code policy.
- Management of tool & equipment needs.
PREREQUISITES
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Qualification:
• Certificate / Diploma in Logistics or Stores or similar.
Experience:
• >5 years of Manufacturing experience.
• >7 years supervisory experience.
• >7 years of experience in stock management.
• Cleanroom experience (preferable).
• Knowledge of stock management systems (ERP system).
• Electronic Manufacturing experience a bonus.
• Experience in packaging of electronic-related products.
• Project management experience (coordinating projects).
