Your new role
We are looking for social housing professionals to join Birmingham City Council as part of their Homeless Centre Support staff.
As a Housing Support Officer, you will deliver a responsive and customer focused temporary accommodation service and ensure residents promptly access support identified in their Personal Housing and TA Move On plans.
You will make referrals to support agencies and build confidence in customers to effectively manage their expenditure and maximise their income and independence. Process housing benefit/DHP claim forms to minimise the risk of rent arrears and bad debt. Promptly liaise with TA Finance Officers to determine the best course of action in dealing with non-payment of TA rent and service charge and monitor and accurately record income received.
You will also ensure any income collected is received within agreed procedures and targets, follow service procedures when issuing and recording warnings for minor breaches in tenancy. Immediately report serious breaches of tenancy to your line manager and the resident's caseworker and attend court evictions where required.
This role is shift-based on a 6-week rolling rota, so weekend work will be available.
What you'll need to succeed
In order to succeed in your application, you will need a background in Social Housing - this could be a housing officer, neighbourhood officer, homelessness officer etc. You will need knowledge of Legislation and Part 6 and 7 of the Housing Act.
These roles will be an ASAP start, which before starting you will need to pass your reference and compliance checks, upon registration please have your 2 most recent employment details available for reference checks.
This role requires an Enhanced DBS, which Hays will put into process for you free of charge. What you'll get in returnThis Housing Officer job is a full-time, temporary role based in Birmingham. Usually being a 3-month ongoing contract.
What you'll get in return
For this job, Birmingham City Council are offering an hourly rate of £12 (£13.45 including holiday), and after 13 weeks in assignment you will receive an up lift to £13.20 (£14.79 including holiday).
