The Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) is seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Technician.
Overview of Duties:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join our team for an exciting new HLA project. This role involves supporting cutting-edge immunology research and advancing our research objectives focused on the Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) system and its implication in immune responses and disease. As part of the project team, the successful candidate will assist in performing HLA genotyping, ELISpot assays, cell proliferation assays, flow cytometry, and support other T-cell based assays. The role will also involve data analysis and reporting, maintaining lab equipment, ensuring compliance with study protocols, and performing various administrative tasks. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research while working in a collaborative and dynamic research environment and gaining valuable experience in immunology and molecular biology.
Minimum Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences, immunology, molecular biology, or a related field is required.
Minimum Experience
- At least 2 years of research experience particularly in molecular biology, immunology, or related fields.
- Experience with HLA typing methods (e.g., PCR, library preparation, sequencing) and immunological assays such as ELISpot assays, cell proliferation assays, and flow cytometry is advantageous.
- Experience with inventory management in a laboratory setting is an asset.
Skills Required
- Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, such as PCR, DNA extraction, gel electrophoresis, and sequencing and immunological assays and techniques (e.g., flow cytometry, ELISpot and cell proliferation assays).
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse teams.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Ability to perform accurate and precise experiments, follow protocols, troubleshoot experimental issues, and proactively suggest improvements to protocols and procedures.
- Proficiency with data analysis software (e.g., Excel, GraphPad Prism) is preferred.
