MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
The Service Technician is responsible for all service business and after-sales support work, including diagnosing equipment and controls, general repairs, pre-commissioning inspections, commissioning, warranty inspections, maintenance, and compiling reports. This position reports to the Supervisor for Service Business in Johannesburg.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
• Ensure a safe working environment and the safe operating condition of equipment.
• Provide 24-hour telephonic access for customer assistance.
• Conduct site inspections to evaluate and cost jobs.
• Supervise the service assistant/apprentice.
• Compile comprehensive written reports of findings with photos.
• Generate new work on contracted sites by suggesting improvements to existing systems.
• Carry out commissioning requirements of VRV, Chillers, Rooftop, and Refrigeration systems.
• Complete and communicate DSM job cards with service coordinators.
• Collaborate with service coordinators and spare parts controllers to ensure optimal teamwork and service delivery.
• Maintain product knowledge by attending sales and technical training courses.
• Attend team-building sessions as required.
• Travel locally or internationally as required.
• Work overtime as needed to deliver optimal service levels.
• Be on standby.

EXPERIENCE
• Minimum of 7 years of general HVAC experience
• Minimum of 3 years of Chiller experience
• Good knowledge of HVAC controls
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Good planning and organizational skills
• Proficient report writing skills
• Effective time management skills
• Computer literate (MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, and Email).
QUALIFICATIONS
• Grade 12 or N3 HVAC Diploma (Technical College)
• National Trade Certificate in HVAC&R
• Safe handling of refrigerant certified, Cat B (SAQCC)
• Safety and First Aid level 1 certification.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
The ability to read, analyze data, correspondence, and memos, and effectively present information while responding to questions from clients, customers, and managers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
The ability to perform basic arithmetic operations, calculate heat loads, understand the Psychometrics Chart, and have good knowledge of HVAC controls.
ACCOUNTABILITY
This position is directly accountable to the Regional Supervisor and the National Service Manager for performing duties in line with the organization’s principles and values.
