Horticultural Operatives – The Role:
This role plays an important part in keeping the district clean, green, and welcoming for residents and visitors. You will carry out a variety of hands-on grounds maintenance activities such as grass cutting, hedge trimming, sports field upkeep, shrub bed care, and litter picking, helping to enhance local parks and public spaces.
Horticultural Operatives – Key Responsibilities:
- Perform grounds maintenance tasks (grass cutting, hedge trimming, sports field and shrub bed maintenance, litter picking)
- Operate and maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment, reporting any faults
- Complete required documentation and keep vehicles clean and maintain
- Follow health and safety regulations and wear protective equipment
- Comply with council policies including quality standards, equal opportunities, and safeguarding
- Support the service with additional duties and report issues to the line manager
Horticultural Operatives – You:
- Experienced in grounds maintenance or horticulture
- Competent using grounds maintenance equipment and tools
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Self‑motivated, enthusiastic and able to work using your own initiative
- Flexible and willing to take on varied tasks
- Customer‑focused, polite and helpful when dealing with the public
- Physically able to carry out manual outdoor work (walking, bending, kneeling, lifting)
